I'm sitting in the airport , and won't have access to a real computer till Monday. I'll kick around some ideas and shoot you an email sometime next week, if you don't mind.

Brad Smelley ran a 5.00 flat

I think that was later corrected to a 4.77

Brad Smelley, TE (6-2, 237) — He’s a guy we need to add. Ran 4.77- and 4.76-second 40s; also had a 9-4 broad jump, 4.49 short shuttle, 7.15 cone drill and had 13 strength lifts. He didn’t do the vertical jump. He’ll be drafted by a team that runs a west-coast offense.

Scout updated their class of 2013 rankings today. Malik Zaire is ranked above Hackenberg.

One of the little talked about facets of these pro days is the fact that underclassmen can run for the scouts. Hearing Jesse Williams ran at UA's pro day today and clocked times of 4.87 and 4.75. He measured in at over 6'3 and 320 which is a little heavier than his playing weight (winter workouts traditionally focus more on bulking than conditioning). It goes without saying those are outstanding times even if they're hand-timed. Was also told he cleared over 50 reps of 225 earlier this week.

Then what was some of the rumblings I read in here earlier that JW may not play another down for Bama? Or was that someone else (not named Duron Carter)?

I was under the impression that pro day times were electronic.

If he can do both of these at the combine next year he will be a 1st rounder.

Josh Helmholdt again on Malik Zaire:

quote:

I had a brief chat with Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter QB Malik Zaire tonight, and he explained the offer with Alabama as there is a tentative one on the table, but they just want to have him down to throw and make it official. Malik does plan on attending Alabama's camp now. He said when the National Champions come calling, you listen and he said Alabama is in his top interest group.

Magilla you have gotten my attention with Zaire, who doesn't want a QB named Malik Zaire, and I'm jumping on his bandwagon with both feet. I watched his film again today and I must say that this kid is impressive. I hope he is our QB for the 2013 class.

I know right, although I almost typed his name as Zalik Maire earlier(still cool though). And I hope he is too, everything you like to see in a QB PLUS the ability to run. Again not the tallest QB, but I think he could be just fine at 6-1, 210 at college. He survives now a triple option QB, he takes just as many hits as his RBs do.

2013: McCarron
2014: Sims(I think he sticks around)
2015: Maire?

And chilld, I wasn't ready for that. I felt my heart drop, not cool
