Yep.

Ruggs intended to go 150+ MPH on a public street. That was no "mistake". The car went exactly as fast as he intended. That alone is all I need to know about young Mr. Ruggs.

Yep.

The speed is the key factor.
Drunk driving is something we can all relate to. We all have either driven drunk, or know somebody who has. I don't know anybody who's ever driven drunk at 156 mph on a city road. That's insanity.

Imagine if this was any other random person who DIDN'T play football. Everyone would be wanting the harshest possible sentence.

A beautiful young woman BURNED ALIVE because of him. Witnesses could hear her screaming as she burned... Driving 156 mph is reckless and stupid, even by drunk person standards. In my opinion, he deserves a heavy, life-ruining sentence, the same as anyone who isn't rich and famous.

I totally agree, but manslaughter in Nevada carries a certain penalty so that will be it,

Dead serious, the guy needs to do what he does best.....run.

Show me where I defended him. Because I was the first person to post in the thread where it was announced and I said he should do prison time.

Henry Ruggs will be charged with DUI resulting in death

In case you didn't know, nobody forces you to be a butthurt bitch.

I hate euphemisms. The entire notion of using a certain word, which is purposely misleading in it's context. The word I keep seeing used here - over and over and over again - is "mistake".

No - Ruggs didn't mean to kill that girl. But he absolutely meant to drive 150+ MPH on a public street. He just thought, I guess, that there would be no consequences for that. He thought ... poorly.

Again. That's no "mistake". The car performed exactly as he intended. When people do that - as you say, it's not murder. It's manslaughter - and he should serve whatever the maximum sentence is.

And never operate a motor vehicle again. And never have more than a barely living wage - while the rest of his earnings once he gets out goes to that woman's family. Not his own. Not sorry. Decisions that poor have consequences.

Plus, everyone I see on TV is expressing sympathy for Ruggs. Talking about how sad his situation is and so forth.

I don't see anyone out there saying "frick this guy. he deserves the harshest punishment there is. He did a terrible thing."

Driving 156 mph?
I've been drunk many times, and I've never been that stupid.

Turn the fricking TV off and quit bringing that shite here.

The judicial system take care of Ruggs.

This is just arguing semantics and ignoring the definition of a mistake. You can make a mistake by intentionally doing something that results in a negative.

mis·take
/m?'stak/
noun

1.
an action or judgment that is misguided or wrong:
"coming here was a mistake"

I'll add a couple:

"driving 156 MPH while drunk was a mistake"

"throwing into triple coverage was a mistake"

This isn't about semantics. This is about the fact that you had a self-centered, reckless individual who regularly drove at dangerously high speeds.
Drunk or not, he was going to eventually hurt somebody else or himself.

Then go out and drive 150+ MPH down a public street. If nothing happens, I guess you didn't "make a mistake".

No - bullshite. Ruggs' "mistake" was driving 150+ MPH down a public street. That is a behavior that the vast majority of society agrees leads to no good. The tragedy is that this time, he killed somebody.

Because, if we didn't do things that way - why not have EVERYONE rip down the neighborhood at 150 MPH ? After all, if they don't kill anybody - no harm, no foul, right ?

Let's get down to why so many people are defending Ruggs. It has nothing to do with Ruggs. But I can't be the only person that commutes often to work. A new mentality has dropped, in the last couple years, of a certain demographic that loves to run 30-40 MPH over the speed limit, and zig and zag in and out of traffic. Speed limits don't apply to them, apparently.

I'm just using definitions - fwiw driving 150+ is "misguided and wrong" regardless of eventual outcome so it would still be a mistake by definition.

Imagine how many times Saban could've helped him with his struggles but all he cares about is winning. Terrible decision and blood should be on Nick as well.

We literally have a thread on our board with people saying those exact words.

Hell, multiple people have advocated for Ruggs to be given a death sentence.

Are you fricking stupid or something?

No - you're attempting to use a euphemism. If I aim a loaded gun at someone, and finger the trigger without intent to shoot, and the gun goes off, that's a little bit more than a "mistake".

If I'm out shooting my compound bow, and decide it would be funny to send put one at somebody's foot, and end up putting it in their forehead, that is also not a "mistake".

Both willful, egregious errors so bad that my judgement is called into question. It's not a case of "could have happened to anyone". It goes beyond the context of a simple "mistake".

If I serve you under-cooked chicken off my grill ... that's a mistake. If I kill you hot-rodding my F-250 at 100+ MPH ... more than a mistake.

Its not a euphemism if it fits the definition, and it does. You can tack whatever word on in front of "mistake," if you care to emphasize the severity of it. Does it really matter?
