re: Let's all share why we hate Auburn so much
Posted by BasedTide on 11/23/21 at 11:58 am
To start with, I hate their colors. Dark Navy paired with blaze Orange is just not my cup of tea. The name "Auburn". It's named after some bum-frick city in Alabama.
The fact that it's such a redneck school located in a small city in Alabama with cow pastures everywhere, yet people who go there act like they're attending a prestigious university or something.
Football-wise, their team is the very definition of Busch League. The best example of "Little Brother University" their entire program centers around beating Alabama, but even that doesn't seem to be enough. They can't reasonably expect to be an elite program, yet they seem to fire every coach no matter how much relative success they have.
Rooting against Auburn is painful. They seem to always narrowly escape defeat by the narrowest of margins - usually due to an absolute fluke occurrence like a Hail Mary or a Kick 6, or the refs adding a second to the clock, etc - and then they have the audacity to celebrate such victories as if they're the best team in the world - even if it's against Georgia State.
Auburn is like a cockroach that you want to kill, but it always gets away. You hit it with a shoe, and somehow it's still alive. It just won't die.
They seem to have some sort of cosmic contract with God to spoil Alabama's fun. Alabama goes undefeated in 2009, and then Auburn gets Cam and goes undefeated the season after - the first time in 53 years, and it comes right after Alabama does it. What are the odds of that? Just to take the shine off of Alabama's resurgence. Then they go on to have the best record vs. Saban of any SEC school despite hiring a string of dipshits at HC.
Auburn defies logic. They are an enigma. An entity that only exists to be hated, and to play spoiler. Nothing about their program makes any sense, they seldom have much success, and yet somehow they're still around like an annoying gnat that just won't go away.

Mac Jones is a baller. He already looks like one of the best QBs in the NFL, and is getting better every week. We'll see if he can keep up this pace, but the last few games the Patriots have looked like Super Bowl contenders.
If the Patriots can beat the shite out of Atlanta tonight, look for Mac Jones mania to get even crazier.
He's looking like the rookie of the year at this point.

Alabama is the most storied football program of the South. Dixie's football pride.
Alabama's uniforms are the best.

NINE One-Loss Teams
Posted by BasedTide on 11/17/21 at 10:26 am
With only 2 games left, plus conference championships, there are NINE P5 schools with only 1 loss.
Is this normal? It seems to me like there are a lot more 1 loss teams than usual this year.
Some of them will work themselves out like OSU, Michigan, and Michigan St.
But what do you do with a 1-loss Wake Forest team? I mean the ACC is a power 5 conference. Oklahoma and OK St. are both 1-loss teams from the Big 12.
If Alabama beats Georgia we could end up with a total mess at the end of the year, and then there are a ton of people who seemingly want to throw Cincinnatti in the playoff just because they're undefeated.
If Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Wake Forest, OSU, Oregon, and Notre Dame all have 1 loss, plus an undefeated Cincinnati, who gets in?

Dabo Swinney built his entire mythos on the backs of 2 of the greatest college QBs of all time. He got lucky.
Now we see what Dabo is when he doesn't have the best QB in the country.

Alabama has worse injury luck than anyone. You won't hear us complain one bit.
We've lost 3 RBs to season-ending injuries, plus our 2nd-best pass rusher, plus our center, plus a starting safety, and a WR, and probably more.
We probably have more injuries than any team in playoff contention.
Still like our chances.

Not particularly. It's college football. It's always a "young team"
It's not like we've got a bunch of freshmen out there. If anything, we should have more freshmen out there.

There are many ways Bama can beat you, as evidenced by the last several meetings.
We don't have much of a backup QB this year though, so that bodes well for you

Yes it is. Everybody thinks Georgia can't lose but Bama gonna pull them into a defensive struggle
I agree. I see a low-scoring defensive battle. Turnover margin and penalties will be key

Is Everything Unfolding Perfectly for Alabama?

Alabama has looked flat-out bad at times this year with multiple narrow victories, and a loss.
The Iron Bowl looked daunting.
Not so much anymore. Auburn got embarrassed vs. MSU at home, and now the QB that beat Alabama 2 years ago will be out for the game.
The Iron Bowl seems like a given at this point.
Regardless, Alabama has all but clinched the West at this point after aTm's loss to Ole Miss.
Georgia is having injury bug issues of their own. They still look completely dominant, but it looks like Alabama's final two games won't be nearly as difficult as before.
Alabama is going to have a great shot at Georgia in Atlanta. Winner takes all.
I think I'd have to bet on Georgia at this point, but you never know. I'll take Bryce Young over either Georgia QB, and Alabama is always at their best when their backs are against the wall, and they know the game is gonna be tough.
The real question is whether or not Georgia would be eliminated with a loss to Alabama.
This still looks like Georgia's year, but with all of these recent positive developments for Alabama, maybe we're about to run it back :dunno:
One thing's for sure, Alabama/Georgia will be the game of the year. Especially if there's a rematch
