What list is this? Last year USNWR had Auburn at 99

Honestly, I don’t get why these schools are so low compared to bunch of others, esp some of the power 5 schools (Arizona, CU, Oregon. Utah, FSU, Minnesota, Maryland, etc)

Auburn has slowly but surely been moving up. They are getting more restrictive about who they let in, and their minimums are much higher than when I went there years ago. Of course, that's assuming that the tests of today are equal to the tests of 40 years ago.

Probably true. I know that for rich ATL kids, if you can’t get into UGA, you go to Auburn, Bama, or Tennessee, and if you can’t get into those you go to LSU, Ole Miss, or State
Accept that LSU accepts less than Auburn, Bama, or Tennessee.

A far more prosperous endeavor would be to approach a boomer with a 3-5 million business, understudy for 4 years and buy them out. Hard work and good decisions and that could be a 500k EBITDA in a few years with a 2 million asset. You could knock down 250k a year right out of grad school and not ever catch up in earning potential and you’re still a W2.

The only engineer I ever had to fire was an Auburn grad.

CU has had more astronauts than any other school.
Basically what I’m saying is, suck it Auburn.

I’m not sure I would be against applying to any school.
I probably would like them fairly close to home.
So basically I would prefer Auburn, Georgia, or South Carolina.

Highest acceptance rate in the SEC and they take every retard from GA and TX that can’t get in anywhere else in their own state.

Fortunately, all four of my kids got degrees from A&M. Just like their mother and father, grandfather and great grandfather

I spoke with my son who is a Graduate Admissions Counselor at a well-respected university that is NOT an SEC school but is located within the SEC footprint. He sees hundreds graduate applications and resumes each month from all over the US and foreign countries.
Here is his ranking of the SEC schools; they are not MY rankings but his is absolutely based on experience - maybe he has specific majors and graduate programs in mind FOR HIS LOCALE, so maybe this list is not as general as some of the published magazine rankings. But, his is "real world".. YMMV and with $2 more, you can get a cup of coffee somewhere.
He says:
1. Vanderbilt
2. Georgia
3. Kentucky
4. Auburn
5. Florida
6. Tennessee
7. Alabama
8. Texas A&M
9. Mississippi
10. Mississippi State
11. LSU
12. South Carolina
13. Arkansas
14. Missouri
It is my understanding that he talks to a lot of engineers and technology related students who are pursuing additional business degrees and also advanced engineering degrees.
Anyway, here's a real world look. It's not how I would rank them but he has a reason somehow with experience.

Well, he's pretty good at what he does. And turned down multiple academic scholarships to SEC schools. Not a single person who has ever met him would call him an idiot, I can assure you that.
It's pretty rude to call someone an idiot based on their in-person experiences. I already said I didn't particularly agree with his list but I respect it for what it is. If you disagree, fine, I do also. But there's no need to be coarse about it.

I care more about cost. Unless your kid wants to work on Wall St, no sense in paying mortgage on college now.
The degree doesn’t carry like it used to.

It all depends. Each school has degrees that are attractive. If it's for a regular old basket weaving degree none are going to be better than the other.

Well you’re not being too in your face with this, so I won’t disparage your son.
What I will say is it all depends on the individual and your field of study. My son got an accounting degree from Mizzou and passed the CPA exam first sitting. He took a job with a Big 4 accounting firm making impressive jack right outta school with crazy upside potential for a five year degree.
The old man, also an MU grad (but with only a 4 year degree) retired as a Big 4 partner. If you have any curiosity if that pays the light bill, google it.
So, #14 on your list served two generations of my family, very, very well!

Male: A&M, obviously.
Female: Too many absolute shithole cities where she’d be risking being raped and murdered to pick from. LSU came to mind but it’s far from the only one.
