Basically what I’m saying is, suck it Auburn.

If you have nothing good to say about your own school, insult another one. My NASA engineer father laughs at you.

The only NASA mission where the entire crew was from one University.

It's getting harder. This year's acceptance rate at Auburn was 43% (comparable to UGA now)... I read that other SEC schools are also reporting lower acceptance rates now.

Auburns acceptance rate is not 43% its almost twice that

and they have a good college experience. Like I told my daughter you only get to do high school and college once (well being a first time undergraduate at least). You want it to be a good experience

It dropped significantly THIS year. You're looking at older numbers. Auburn had a record number of applicants and limits enrollment.

As to CrownTownHalo's downvote of Sewanee

Actually you’re right…I got it opposite…that’s the SEC school I WOULD want my kid to apply to.

They’d need a scholarship though..

Yeah not this year it wasn't. Auburn was VERY competitive for this school year.

Yes. I can attest to that firsthand as my son just went through it.

If I had applied to Auburn now vs. 1991 they'd have thrown my application in the trash

My child is actually in the process of applying. Only 1 SEC school on his radar though. Texas A&M. I tried to convince him to look at Georgia or Florida since they had good programs for his major but he just wasn't interested.

I'd never let my kid go to Ole Miss or Mississippi state, it'd literally be more economical to go to Vocational school.

What one college would you want them never to apply?

Out of state tuition is a waste of money, so I'd want them to apply to none of them except Vanderbilt, which offers merit scholarships.

And A&M is a cult.

In 1982, I just filled out one form. I think you had to have a 19 on ACT and a HS diploma if you were in state.

I had a 26 on ACT which was good, but not great. I doubt I would get into most schools in the SEC now. We did not do test prep and there was not a crazy process for touring colleges. I just sent my scores to Alabama, Auburn and one of the smaller schools. My test prep was “you have the ACT tomorrow. Don’t be out to late!”

And you probably got a degree, had a great experience and have been a productive member of society putting your degree to good use since.

Better days.

All true. I also think things would have gone about the same at many other colleges. I loved Auburn, but I bet many college experiences are unique and special just like all the others.

My kids college tours: “we are the best college in x with the most y.”

Auburn was a good fit for me in 1982. Very welcoming. Not snooty.

Now it looks like Club Med with classes. I lived in crappy apartments and ate a lot of peanut butter. Now they have Chef’s Table type dining.

I am referring to AU's 2022 acceptance rate (2022 - 43%), you are probably looking at 2020 and 2021 numbers.

These list are always dumb as shite. I mean is your kid looking for a degree in poultry science? Engineering of some kind? Journalism?

Some schools are definitely better at different things.

And if they are not sure and just looking to get a “degree”. Tell them to hold off until they get a better idea of what they want to get into.

You don’t need a degree to sell insurance.

This year’s list is out. Little perplexing - what did some of these schools (Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee) do to drop? And why did Kentucky get dropped below Bama? And how did Auburn move up?
