Others, mostly the younger crowd, might say Ole Miss.

Auburn vs Ole Miss has never been much of a thing. It ramped up a little bit because of Kiffin rejecting you and you ending up with Freeze who was vastly superior on the Ole Miss sidelines than on Auburn sidelines, but other than that we rarely even think of Auburn. For example, we have more games against Tennessee than Auburn even though Tennessee and Ole Miss rarely played each other after the 80s.

I think Arkansas and OU has the potential to turn into a heated rivalry due to proximity of the campusus. Also a lot of alum from both schools that reside in rival areas.

That's cool. Arkansas is content to play em every 3 years.

Give us LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas. Then, leave us alone.

Somehow I believe bama fans and the SEC will cry uncontrollably if they don’t get Vandy as a permanent opponent. They'll scream about the history of them playing Vandy and the tradition... but in the end, it's about the 99.9% chance for an easy conference win.

If history comes into play then SC would be UGA's 3rd and not Kentucky. Kentucky would instead go with Tennessee.

Some alternative versions to show the differences..

I like Option B the best, but I'm guessing LSU would yell at the clouds.. the balance just seems to work best with that arrangement.

For LSU:

I’m a child of the 70s and 80s, so when I was a kid, LSU was kind of an afterthought to us Auburn fans because we didn’t play yall all that often. That changed in the late 80s when we played two epic games in 88 and 89, splitting the series. Then in 92, LSU became a permanent yearly foe. I think the rivalry peaked in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Going forward, after this last expansion, I’m not sure Auburn and LSU will play every year as they’ve done since ‘92. I hope so because that’s become one of my favorite games of the season.

I figure KY would be the next in line if those three don't work out.

that was kind of the minor offshoot from the maint point that SC needs to play UGA.

UGA is undoubtedly SC's biggest and longest standing SEC opponent. They have played us over 30 more times than the next most often SEC opponent, and we are their 2nd most played team ever only behind clemson.

100% - I agree

In 95% of the variations I came up with, Georgia was SC's opponent.. but when you start moving the pieces, it gets tricky in a hurry.

That being said, that is only because I'm trying to solve a puzzle here, for the purpose on balanced scheduling.. and I assume they won't do that, because that would make too much sense..

This conference is not a computer program. Tradition matters. I hope that Texas and OU's entry hasn't changed that.

I can't imagine LSU having permanent opponents and neither Florida or Auburn is one of them.

The 3 i want to see every year are

Bama
OM
and any of the following
A&M-good for recruiting
UF-has become a great game every year
Auburn-crazy games every year
Texas-2 teams that haven't played a lot but should

It is really hard to pick 3 permanent opponents...i hate what expansion has done to scheduling

Generally I have this attitude, but if done right - like originally when there were two divison crossover permanent games - then there are fantastic "new' rivalries created.

Although there is little history between OU and Arkansas, I don't understand why that wouldn't become a great one the way LSU-Auburn became a great one. Prior to divisions, UTK/UGA wasn't a thing. They played ten times from when the conference was established until being put in the same division.

From your lips to God’s ears, but I’m afraid that AU/UF as an annually game will never be resurrected.

Having Ala/uga/UF as AU’s 3 perms would be awesome. Hard as hell, but Auburn is at its best when it’s playing these 3 every year.
