Why LOL? The fact that he failed at Youngstown State has no bearing at all on whether he's a good DC. None! How dare you suggest that his record as a head coach might suggest anything negative about Bo as a defensive coach?!

Hey Hugh, why did you post a thread that literally only said

quote:

Youngstown State football coaches
Posted on 1/27/20 at 2:31 pm
313

Jim Tressel: 135-57-2
John Heacock: 60-44
Eric Wolford: 31-26
Bo Pelini: 33-28

Random fact of the day? Trying to figure out what went wrong to help Youngstown State make a better hire this time? Big fan of Eastern Ohio football history?

Well, he's not coming here to be our head coach jackass. So, your post makes zero sense and has nothing to do with how pelini has done as a DC in the past. You should be more worried about tamu paying Jimbo what they are and settling for 8 win seasons. That's fricking hilarious.

FACT:

Bo Pelini coached against Texas A&N twice as HC or DC:

DC at Nebraska in 2003
- Texas A&N scored 12 points (240 total yards)

HC at Nebraska in 2010
- Texas A&N scored 9 points (310 total yards)

Here's a weird fact. Pelini was fired at Nebraska for doing better than Jimbo is doing at A&M.

Thoughts?

Bo is not suited to be a head coach. I think he did well at Nebraska , but also believe he would have never exceeded 10 wins. Too many things outside of his control and he just didn’t mesh with that aspect of being a head coach.

Being a DC, however , is in his wheelhouse. He can analyze, develop a game plan, call a game, assess talent and recruit. His defensive players love him and have at every stop. Quality NFL experience as a DB coach under Seifert and LB coach under Carrol. He has developed guys into NFL caliber players and individual award winners. He and Venables are very similar, with Veneables coaching under Bo at OU. You will see an aggressive front 4 with disguised blitz’s coming from many different angles.

Pointing to how guys did as head coaches when they are being hired to be coordinators makes absolutely no sense at all.

Why do people always do this? There is almost zero correlation between the two things.

Yep and some that are jumping on the OP for doing it will do it within the next year

Maybe it may make more sense to show how his defenses at LSU performed since it couldn’t be a more apples to apples comparison?

He's better with talent (LSU has it)

He can focus just on Defense (plus)

He's better than your DC

Is it the salary you have an issue with? Because we know he's a damn good DC.

LSU pays what LSU wants to pay aTm pays what aTm wants to pay.

interesting comment by Pelini that caused a rift between him and the Nebraska admin.

quote:

Our crowd. What a bunch of f@#king fair-weather f@#king—they can all kiss my arse out the f@#king door. 'Cause the day is f@#king coming now. We'll see what they can do when I'm f@#king gone. I'm so f@#king pissed off.

Nebraska Football with Pelini (7 years) - 67-27 (one season finshed ranked outside coaches top 25)
Nebraska Football since Pelini (5 years) - 28-34 (haven't finished in coaches top 25 once)

I guess some people cant handle the truth these days

Yeah and the quote was after a large number of fans left in a game where Nebraska was losing to Ohio St in which the Huskers rallied to win.

So was he wrong? It appears not.

Oh, nothing. Great hire! He look like a 2 million dollar a year coordinator to me!

Pelini hasn't been a DC since he left LSU after the 2007 season. His last 3 defenses:

2005 LSU #3
2206 LSU #4
2007 LSU #17

Aranda's last 3 seasons at LSU

2017 LSU #12
2018 LSU #25
2019 LSU #31

Head coaching record aside, I'm pretty sure Bo knows defense.
