All these people on here and the recruiting board have tried to have solutions to increasing parity. Unlimited transfers? Please. The real solution is to decrease every school to 70 total football scholarships. This season has shown what losing tons of players can do to each team. LSU was shite, UF couldn't hold a candle to OU after a few quitters, UGA with 200 5*s still couldn't compete with Bama after Newmann left.

Reduce the total scholarships to 70, max the number of class signees to 20. Talent distribution increases exponentially down the list. The 5* that Bama can't take goes to UF who drops a 4* that goes to Mizzou.

No problem with reducing scholarships and having hard roster cap #’s.

I’d personally like to get rid of spring football and limit 2nd semester activity to strength and conditioning only to better integrate student athletes into a more normal students experience rather then essentially a year round grind

The only way they could do that is if they paired it with paying kids. The PR hit for reducing scholarships to kids would be way too high.

That's what they said would happen when you went from unlimited to 85 scholarships.

Didn't happen then, won't happen if you go to 70.

Yes, it's an awesome idea to eliminate 1,950 college scholarships for mostly black men.

Parity is another word for socialism.

Just say you want socialism in sports.

I don't. No thanks.

It's an incredibly stupid idea anyway. The good players are still going to go to the same schools. You'll just have fewer shitty players on every team.

I wonder if this would increase injury rates though

How did that getting rid of the athletic dorms workout for the NCAA football. Give everybody a trophy and a smartphone and lets go.

Yes, reducing the opportunity available for kids sounds like just what is needed.

If you raise FCS scholarships to 70 from 53 you can make up the difference.

This.

I’d also like to see a requirement that every P5 team play one game a season against an FCS school every year, as a means of spreading the wealth around.

It would, but there aren't more than a handful of FCS schools who could swing that expense.

If it was feasible a minor league Football league would solve a lot of problems. Freak athletes that have no intention of graduating and are just waiting to get paid shouldn’t be “student” athletes. Schools compromise their integrity recruiting and keeping them elegible.

I watch lower divisions and the game is still very good and well played even without so many elite athletes. Let those guys go earn money right away and bring some integrity to an amateur sport.

I’ve been saying it for years. 85 players is too many. That’s why there are so many transfers. Reduce overall scholarships and nearly everyone plays.

I’m also a fan of 5 years of eligibility, no redshirts. You get 5 years to play 5, period.

Which is a fools errand, you can't force something like that by changing rules. The only way for more parity is for everyone else in the acc, big 10, and pac 13 besides Clemson, osu, and oregon get serious about winning football. It's not the fault of the ncaa that teams like michigan, florida state, texas, usc, penn state, miami, etc all suck massive balls and some for more than a decade.

People keep going to bama, osu, and Clemson bc those are the best teams right now. Just like they all went to miami, florida, and fsu in the 90s. And usc, ou, and florida/lsu in the aughts. The only difference btwn this era and those is that bama unlocked a new level that has previously never existed.

D2 only gives 36. You could bump them and FCS up a bit to make up the difference.

But, spare me the whining about lost scholarships. It has been made clear that scholarships are not valuable to college athletes. It’s almost a slap in the face.

It's only a few vocal people who think scholarships aren't valuable. Less than 2% of players make it to the NFL, the extreme majority of them benefit greatly from the scholarships.
