I wish the yankees would find a way to fix the issues up North instead of moving to the South.

Louisiana probably lost population bc of the hurricanes. Every time we have a major storm, many ppl relocate after losing their homes. We had major storms in back to back years.

It's usually the poor people moving to the South because they can afford to live there with shitty jobs (except Florida, Florida is like the wish.com version of California.)

SEC States ranked by GDP per capita:

Texas: 14
Georgia: 26
Tennessee: 31
Missouri: 34
Florida: 36
Louisiana: 39
Kentucky: 44
South Carolina: 46
Alabama: 47
Arkansas: 49
Mississippi: 50

I live in North Georgia and it seems that people from out of the region are flooding in here at a high rate. People from California are getting out of that dump while they still can.

The people I know from California that have settled here are all conservative people. They are good dudes. Tennessee has a lot of California people moving in.

North Carolina is full of New York refugees, per my friend that lives there. South Carolina has a lot of Ohio people in it.

Something I have noticed about people that have moved into Georgia, they show up with their superiority attitude, that is a given. After living here they decide those Southern Universities are not so bad after all and that is where a lot of their kids go to school. Then to top it off the kids wind up marrying Southern natives. The acclimation is complete.

Arkansas has a nice moderate growth rate overall, adding 17,000 people last year and up 34,000 since the 2020 census.

Unfortunately, just about all of them came to Northwest Arkansas. And in-state, people are still moving from rural areas into metro areas here, the same as everywhere else.

If I had to guess, most of our transplants are from the West and Texas.

Louisiana and Mississippi are losing around 25,000 and 10,000 people per year, respectively.

NYC is regarded as the greatest city in the world

Alabama is regarded as the disgrace of the nation and is the butt of everyone’s jokes

Who has the problems?

It's usually the conservative people that move to the South since they're the poor and uneducated people.

Hell, Native born Texans are more democratic than republican and it's the people who couldn't make a living in California moving there that are mostly republican.

There are a lot of bitter conservatives who fail in life that blame liberals instead of their own inadequacies.

That's why California is like 4th in GDP per capita despite being the most populated state and why the south is so fricking poor.

It's a lot of Ohio transplants in South Carolina unfortunately. I wish they would stay their arse in their own state.

Much better to have Midwesterners than New Yorkers and New Englanders. The Midwest and the South are much more culturally similar than people in both regions realize.

“As a northerner, I can speak to this. Many folk I know desire to or have moved to Florida, Carolinas, and Texas. I’ve considered a move down to Austin or San Antonio or grab a property out in Nashville, but that’s on hold for time being. The south as a whole is a much better place for family as well. Northeast is full of nonsense.”

I will let you in on a secret. Most people dump on Mississippi. However, 99.9% of people who have moved here from the Northern states love it here. Property is very affordable and there are a lot of advantages to living here. We are content to let people bash us so more people won’t move here.
But some of my best friends are people from OH, PA and MI. They will never move back up North. So give us a look if you want to live where people care about each other, folks are friendly and a sense of community is just part of life. And that goes for all cultures.

It's kind of funny, because there's an actual metric to determine how much people want to live in an area.. and that's property values.

This is basically measuring the people who fail to afford to live in places they want to live.

Just so long as we’re clear about the contempt for the working man that’s acceptable. Thx.

I have contempt for people who think their lives suck but don't actually do a fricking thing to change it.

Go to trade school, go to college. Get some prospects. Hell, they are desperate for people to work all over.

The poorer south (Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas) has issues with finding qualified people to work a lot of jobs. They're offering $75,000 sign on bonuses for pharmacists at Walgreens to commit to working 3 years in Arkansas. Walmart is offering $30k for a 2 year commitment to working for Walmart and 6 months in a store in Arkansas.

There's a very particular subset of people who feel like that their failures are other people's fault. It's like incels who blame women because they are fat, lazy and don't do a fricking thing to make themselves palatable.

The people MOVING into these states aren't the ones suffering from a dearth of opportunity, instead, they're suffering from a dearth of effort.

I'm back in Arkansas from Florida. I'm buying land with a larger house for 1/4 of the price I sold my Florida home for. You see so many communities that are husks of what they once were. The people are leaving.. the town is decaying, everything except for the churches. They're big, shiny cancerous tumors on the small town communities. Try it some time. Drive through the rural south and count the number of towns with abandoned storefronts and overgrown houses but have big fricking massive churches that are immaculately maintained.
