“We have other players on the team who are not vaccinated, as I would say probably every other team in the league. And we’ve had minimal, but throughout the league there’ve been a number of, quite a high number I would say, of players who have had the virus who have been vaccinated. So your implication that the vaccination solves every problem, I would say that has not been substantiated, based on what has transpired in training camp this year. That’s all.”

Not really. Pretty widely accepted that people who have been vaccinated can get the virus, especially 5-6 months after getting it.

For the Patriots (and every team's) purposes, just testing positive causes massive issues with availability of the player regardless of severity of illness, so he's pointing out that just being vaccinated doesn't solve all their issues in terms of guys being available to play. Because those vaccinated players can still get the virus, test positive and be out of commission.

All I gather from this is that Cam's release had nothing to do with the vaccine and Mac beat his candyass for the job straight up

Think he was discussing it in the context of the idea that your team being fully vaccinated means you have basically "solved any potential COVID problem", and he's noting that isn't really the case.

But does it change protocol, Bill? Protocol, the thing where you have to sit all these close contact players for weeks at a time. Does it change that Bill?

As has been noted, Bellichek was talking about how it is possible for vaccinated players to still test positive for the virus and so even if every single player was vaccinated there would still be a couple of guys who have to miss a game for testing positive.

The “truth bomb” that you tried to create by taking his comments out of context is not borne out by the statistics at all.

Well over 70% of American adults are fully vaccinated and yet in pretty much every place, 95-99% of new cases are among the unvaccinated, and hospitalization rates and death rates are even more highly made up of the unvaccinated.

Even though it is possible to still get COVID after being fully vaccinated, a minority of the population makes up an overwhelming majority of cases, and nearly all deaths and hospitalizations.

That's certainly the implication. Get the shot! Get the shot! If you ask questions or discuss it further you are an anti vaxxer and part of the problem.

There is still not a good answer to why someone who has had Covid (which is probably upwards of 100 million in the US because most who have had it never tested for it) needs the vaccine. It may or may not help with symptoms if you catch it again.

It's all just lunacy at this point. People either are vaxxed or chose not to. The physically fit and children are the group least likely to be seriously affected by Covid. Delta is also too contagious to contain and with most people vaxxed they are passing it to others and have no idea they are doing it.

Outside of a very, very small group of people that are vulnerable and for various reasons can't get the vax there is no reason for this and you can't make public policy based on a very small group of people that unfortunately will need to quarantine and/or wear N95 masks to be safe. The rest of us should be able to live our lives, especially extremely healthy and fit football players.

Can we get a rule if you post about covid/vaccines that is not directly about players missing a game... that you are banned from the board?

I got Covid in May 2020. (mild case)
I got vaccinated in March 2020.
I now have Delta as of Monday. (mild case so far)

So yes, you can definitely get Covid multiple times, vaccinated or not.. The vaccination doesn’t prevent you from getting the virus, and if you have it, you are definitely contagious, but it does limit the severity of the virus. In theory..

A lot of sportspeople are having to find different work because of their decision to not vaccinate. LSU fans better get their backyard Bar-B-Q fired up if they aren't vaccinated and want to go to the game. The NBA is about to sponsor some tough vaccination protocols for the players and staff.

It seems everyone still has options to consider, but not the same ones as last year.
