I never said that.
I said Chance is the best player in this draft. Not the #1 pick, but the best player.

Yeah, we all know that. But as of right now, he's the best prospect.

I disagree, but then again I'm not going to sit here and argue to a homer about it.

the problem is there is no specific bar like any other scholly. sometimes the mythical bar is lowered for a specific player/s in order to make room from one year to the next.
Just like in life, some folks set the bar high and some don't. Some coaches can consistantly win at a high level, some can't. Some coaches can develope the talent they are able to bring into their program, some can't.
In the end most all football fans can spot an elite coach with an elite program when we see their team take the field on Saturdays.

who then?
Joeckel is the only one i could consider. It's a pretty weak overall draft class.

I dunno man, Mingo has a lot of versatility.

Unfortunately, if that's the case, those players STILL count against the 25-ship per signing year count.
That's precisely why we didn't send Derrick Griffin an LOI.
But they don't count against the 85, which is the number that really matters.

Oversigning isn't necessiarly about signing over 25 in any particular signing class. It's about signing X amount that puts a team over the 85 max.

You guys are giving NYCauburn WAY too much attention. The answer is simple:
We don't owe you an answer, it's not even your school, and if you believe something unethical is happening then either find some basis for the accusation or have a nice day.
Compiling a bunch of numbers and assuming that "something must be going on" is perfectly within your prerogative...but don't expect me to bother with giving an explanation for it.

Interesting how junior high and high school coaches have tryouts and then cut the guys that don't belong on the team.
Jump to college, and everything sticks and coaches have to fight with this 85 number.
If a coach wants to kick some player's arse to the curb, he should be able to do it.

Baseball is different as there are only 8 schollys for 25 players. I doubt any of the 17 Vol baseball players cut from the team rec'd any scholarship monies.
Posted on 2/20/13 at 12:50 pm to Rickety Cricket
Cue the responses of "well those scholarships are year to year..." and "that kid is a thug/underachiever/lazy..." and "Coach Saban really cares about these kids so he's giving them a chance to go elsewhere..."
And it would probably take less than one minute on the Rant or any other team's boards to find comments about cutting underachievers/discipline problems. But, only at Bama is it dishonorable or unethical.

Its still a player getting a scholarship taken away.
Or look at basketball, Auburn cut 5 players 2 years ago. No one cared. And those were full scholarships

Why do you always try to flip a given situation and have it negatively affect Auburn? Aren't you supposed to be "Big Brother"? Let Auburn go, man.

It's not negative towards auburn.
It is what SHOULD be done. Auburn and Saban were in the right when cutting players. That's life. That's America. This isn't some program where everyone gets a free ride for showing up.

Since Saban set up those 4 guys that don't play much, he is off to a good start.
