It's not a guarantee Auburn fires Malzahn, but it remains an expectation in the industry. Auburn is the type of school that could hire Briles, as its administrators want to win bad enough that they'd endure the tidal wave of bad publicity.

Sounds like someone has an agenda. But yeah, speaking the truth as well.

Firing Malzahn this year doesn't seem likely at the moment.

This isn't a coaching changes thread. This thread is a national sports writer thinks that Auburn is run by ends justify the means pieces of shite and therefore wouldn't be surprised if y'all associated with the biggest piece of shite in college football despite the backlash.

No other program has that kind of shade thrown on them, I would be ashamed if it was A&M they were talking about.

The one thing about auburn you could always say is that they were dedicated to their coaches. Pat dye and Tommy tuberville for many years. This produced continuity and wins in the field. Playing hot potatoe with your coaching staff has never worked in college or professional football.

Didn't know campusrush.com is how we decide how good a reputation a university has. Art would never get hired at Auburn, he wont be touched by an SEC school. I guarantee it.

If you look at it in such a broad way, I guess it could look like Auburn is a bit impetuous with regards to firing coaches. But I mean.. all of the changes were made after epic collapses and/or clear indicators that the coach wasn't going to get the program back on track. Bowden resigned after starting 1-5 in 1998, Tuberville went 5-7 in 2008 and it was apparent that he wasn't capable or willing to recruit against Saban, and Chizik went 3-9 in 2012, the worst season Auburn had in 50 years. He also had a terrible defense despite his defensive background, with his teams seemingly winning in spite of him rather than because of him. Plus the whole hiring a security firm to ensure his players made curfew thing wasn't a good look for him from a leadership standpoint.

So yeah, he's right in insinuating that Auburn doesn't tolerate consistent failure, won't settle for mediocrity, and demands a good product on the field. Justifiably so, considering their winning tradition, fan support/expectations, and recruiting capabilities. However, the author is Pete Thamel, who has written negatively about Auburn quite a few times in the past. He really just seems to dislike AU in particular for whatever reason. Not a big deal, but just saying to consider the source.

This is big time athletics. For the money they are paid it is produce or get out.

If you want to spend time prefecting the power toss instead of doing matchups or spend time thinking a rotating 3 qbs to form a FrankenCam would work, you get fired.

He is going to Kansas

What proof does he have to back this assertion? This guy is basing this on Cam Newton 6 ago.
What else does he have to say this kind of thing?

The next prargraph he wrote about us getting Larry Fedora seems more correct. That is who I want if we miss on Briles. But I do find it odd that Fedora cannot seem to defeat inferior teams in the season opener.

Right but what I said is pretty relevant to the thread

I couldn't give a shite what a national sports writer thinks we'd do in the event that we fire a guy that we're likely not firing. Why would I?

Pete Thamel

He's had a hard on for throwing shade at Auburn because he couldn't find anything damning about the whole Cam thing even though he just knew we did something wrong. Especially don't give a shite what he thinks.

Auburn does what it wants.

Get over it. We have no State Governments controlling us like the rest of the SEC "Big 6" teams.

We will hire who we want, when we want, whenever we chose.

We get money from Montgomery each year (the State of Alabama), endorsement deals from Under Armour that rape Nike and Adidas in terms of payment per program(s) due to how many teams they try to take on each year, and we are currently ranked 5th in the SEC in educational institutions.

I think we are fine.

We can certainly weather a storm if needed.

Perhaps, start worrying about your own team right now.

Jay Jacobs will not fire CGM and he wouldn't hire Art Briles. If he wouldn't even talk to Petrino, then no way he hires Art. Now if the new President fires both JJ and CGM then maybe you get Art but that probably won't happen until after next year. The new President will wait at least 1 year to clean house. And Art needs time for the country's memory to fade and he needs to show some repentance. Maybe he can go into the seminary for a year, work with leppers, or adopt some autistic kids, something. Then after a year AU can hire the dude and say everyone deserves a second chance. That would be my plan if I was their President or new AD.

This is true. And other than hiring Bruce Pearl, does Auburn have a history of hiring coaches with bad pasts?
