Nailed it. School ranking in academics matters very little once you have 5+ years of experience in a career field.
ETA: Also, after 5 years or more, the ranking is not as relevant to the actual education that you received.

They're both big arse flagship state schools. Neither is really renowned or that hard to get in to. The difference you're talking about is negligible. OSU is much closer to OM than it is the Ivy League

Perfectly logical. You think people around here chose to go to school at MSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, South Carolina, and LSU because of their academic rankings? Perhaps in some cases where the school has a specialty... But I couldn't see many people beating down the doors to attend those universities if they didn't field a popular football team within those states.

Don't underestimate the networking opportunities post-grad from those schools as well, particularly if you know you are going to stay in the region. You'll learn what you need to learn from any of those schools (hint- you are really going to learn 80% of what you need on the job anyway), but one of the main purposes of going to college is to get a better job and the networking for SEC schools in SEC country is very valuable. "Academic ranking" (amorphous as that concept is anyway) isn't everything.

Academics hands down, but still with power conference athletics. I wouldn't want us to be like Yale or Cornell.
I'd rather us be like Stanford or Vanderbilt than Alabama or Oklahoma.

They are the academic dickriders of schools like Michigan, Minnesota, Chicago, and Northwestern. Ohio State is still the party school of the B1G.

I would much rather be #52 (tOSU) than where Alabama is at #96, but this is a dumb thread. Unless you went to an Ivy league school or other high prestigious private school like Stanford, MIT, Duke, Chicago, etc you will not sniff #1.
I would say I'd like to be top 50 academics and #1 in football.

The ivy league does not award athletic scholarships. So there would never be a generally accepted #1 academic institution that could ever have this option.
There are academic schools that do well in football but it's been a while since Stanford, Cal, Northwestern Vandy Duke etc been #1 in football at season's end.

OSU is actually just a really big school. If you keep tacking stuff on, you eventually add stuff that helps your academic ranking.
