Would anyone rather have Lincoln Riley over Brian Kelly?

Legitimately curious. Riley has made it known that he only wants to coach another decade or so which means they have the same shelf life

IMO, Riley would have more losses under his belt had he taken the LSU job versus USC. He woulda been exposed way faster in Baton Rouge than we're just now finding out.

I think it depends on what your program needs. If you have a program that already has a strong foundation and needs a coach to take it to the next level, Riley has more upside and a higher ceiling. If your program is a dumpster fire like LSU was and needs someone that is professional and knows how to build a program, then you want Kelly.

They seem fairly similar results-wise, at least since Kelly has come in with LSU. Riley has had the benefit of a Heisman winner at QB and is playing in arguably a worse conference, so the comparison may not be apples to apples. But 10-4 in the SEC may be similar to 11-3 in the Pac-12. Both lost in conference championships. And both have historically bad defenses this year.

Riley said he didn't want to coach in the sec because he was afraid.

You're just now figuring out he's an overrated coach who feasted on weak Big-12 competition?

Imagine LSU's defense during the Ole Miss game.

That would be every game except for Auburn on LSU's schedule if Riley was in Red Stick.

If we had hired Riley, we would probably have a really good offense and really bad defense.

No.

Lincoln Riley is Lane Kiffin from 3-5 years ago. Jumping to a team that already has something before everyone catches on he not a good coach

As an OU fan who isn't really butt hurt about how the Riley thing went down...

I think it is kind of interesting that Riley is basically now a victim of his own success from last season.

As it turns out, he would have been better off winning about seven games last year and tempering expectations for this season.

Riley did miscalculate the fans and the press in Cali. He thought they would be more chill than OU fans. He was wrong.

Riley bolted away from OU as soon as he knew they were joining the SEC.

Guy is afraid of real competition. Watch him leave as soon as USC is joining the Big10 to avoid that competition as well.

Yes. Mainly due to age.

Kelly. He has had good defenses in the past and you can't win in the SEC without that.
