I’ve never seen someone in over their head as much as Chad Morris at Arkansas. It’s an expression thrown around a lot but Arkansas legit looked like a high school team under him.

Chad was in a perfect place at SMU, Texas school, low bar.

Arkansas has to have a great x and o coach and several great recruiters in Texas, Florida, and Memphis.

There should be no let's take a chance, they should have spent the money on a solid coach. Even retired legend, heck they could have had Mack Brown or Les Miles.

Some names not already mentioned who were disasters:

Steve Sarkisian at USC
Bill Callahan at Nebraska
Larry Coker at Miami

There is a group of coaches who were bad hires at two schools:
Charlie Weis at Notre Dame and Kansas
John L. Smith at Michigan St. and Arkansas
Rich Rodriguez at Michigan and Arizona
Tyrone Willingham at Notre Dame and Washington
Lane Kiffin at Tennessee and USC

I give John L. Smith a pass for his season at Arkansas because he was very much the emergency hire.

He was going to settle into being the Head Coach at Weber State where the expectations were basically that he not expose himself to the cheerleaders. Smith was done. He had his glorified pre-retirement job at his alma mater. His only real goal was to somehow find a way to dig himself out of the financial hole his lousy investments had left him in.

Then Petrino happened. Smith did not stand a chance at Arkansas though it did give him the big payday he needed. Losing his brother during the season only hastened his mental collapse.

Matt Luke was absolutely horrendous but Chad Morris is the worst

I would disagree about Luke. He was brought in when Ole Miss was in a mess. He did his best and did fairly well considering the sanctions he was working under. There are a ton of other coaches that have been brought to a program with worse results while working under no sanctions at all.

My opinion? Ole Miss never thought of Luke as head coach material and brought him in thinking he would fail miserably while under sanctions then when the sanctions were over they could fire him and move on. He was a sacrificial lamb. Just my opinion, though.

I don't really classify this as a terrible hire. No, Shula wasn't very good at Alabama, but Alabama had very few options. He stuck his neck out for Alabama when Alabama needed someone.

Until they lost to LSU, I really thought Shula was going to take Alabama places. Then after the Iron Bowl loss, I knew they were headed back for the toilet. Saban really saved Alabama.

RichRod got railroaded at Arizona with some MeToo bs. Imagine Khalil Tate with RR instead of Sumlin/Mazzone

Well he beat out Willie Taggart for the job so it could have been much worse! The only thing that pisses me off about Luke other than the fact that he has no business being the HC is the $20M contract we gave him. I guess we were worried about Delta State stealing him away. But he did hold the program together and makes the true rebuild much easier.
Not sure that’s worth $20M though.

Willie Taggert at FSU takes the Grand Prize. That was beyond a train wreck.

Mike Locksley at New Mexico and Maryland will be on this list within three years.

Coker went 60-15 at Miami. They would kill for that right now.

Also, IIRC, RichRod had a lot working against him behind the scenes at Michigan. A lot of that fanbase was upset that he wasn't a "Michigan Man" and Lloyd Carr was still dabbling around even though RichRod was his replacement. Michigan went to the Sugar Bowl in 2011 under Hoke and I think that would have happened under RichRod as well.

Didn't he win a National Championship? If he was worst then how did he make the list if he won a NC?

Wow. I had no idea you guys gave him that much.

Sorry. But, in fairness that is on the administration and not on Luke. He's likeable. I remember seeing him in an interview as he was going into the lockeroom at halftime of one of your games. Couldn't help but like the guy. but, yeah. You don't give somebody $20 million for being likeable, either.

He would eventually be fired at SMU. 7-5 was the best you are going to get with Chad. I don't think he would have sustained it and would go in reverse.

Arkansas needs to attack Texas a lot more than they use to.

All these State fans in here and no Sly Croom?

1. Chad Morris
2. Sly Croom
3. Butch Jones
4. Ed Orgeron

I put Ed last in the group of shame because he busted his arse and left good recruits behind. If you are going to roll the dice, hire a recruiter.
