And it's not even close.
Making pigs fly over Tuscaloosa and 3/4 of a game against #1 FSU is about all the positive I can remember about Curley.
I would have killed to have the Gus Bus at LSU back then. Cheer up Aubs.

All time - Ears Whitworth
Modern era - mike dubose.
Dubose brought us our worst season SINCE Whitworth in 97 but then made up for it with some decent seasons. However the NCAA violations that happened under his watch directly caused the second worst era in Alabama history even though he wasn't currently the coach. So I give him the nod for worst in the modern era.

Don't tell that to Nick Saban. That is who he picked to replace him at LSU.

Ed Orgeron
Was he really that bad? Don't get me wrong, his win loss record was terrible, but Nutt did win a lot of games off of Orgeron's recruits. If Oregeron stays another season are you positive he doesn't win like Nutt was able to do? I am sincerely asking, you would know better than me.

Orgeron. Yes he could recruit. But the man couldn't win a damn ballgame or keep kids under control in the classroom or outside of football. The team fell apart.

The way Fran destroyed our program was impressive. He destroyed relationships with high school coaches, recruited to a dead and ineffective system, lost to Baylor for the first time in over 20 years, had a shutout loss on the road in Norman that still hangs over the program almost ten years later, and destroyed any and all buzz around the program. To see what A&M is doing this year, with essentially Sherman's players, is a testament to a couple things.
1) Mike Sherman's fundamentals as a football coach, talent evaluator, and player developer will always be under appreciated.
2) The amount of talent in the state of Texas, and the development of high school players in the state is unmatched. I don't give a frick about the SEC and its traditional recruiting grounds, but nothing beats Texas high school football.
3) The Power of God.
4) The Aggie Spirit.

He wasn't there too long, and I just remember Nutt winning the next year and everyone giving him so much praise. Then Nutt fell off because he really wasn't that great of a coach (despite having LSU's number). I always wondered why they ditched Oregeron and felt if he stayed there a few more years they could have been pretty good. Maybe if I went back and watched some tape I would remember, but its easier to just take someones word for it who has watched every game he has coached ha.

He was there long enough. Like I said....it wasn't just on the field stuff. It was bad within the program. There was NO discipline. He is the reason we had APR hits.
At least Nutt did win games those two years. Orgeron wouldn't have sniffed 6 wins those two years. The guy didn't know how to coach. He had a great staff....he just didn't let them do their jobs.

its cant be stressed enough on how badly he killed our program. we were a consistent winner in the 80s and 90s and then he shows up in 2002 and then we have the lost years of aggie football. he destroyed what jackie and RC built and our program is just now starting to recover

I feel like Bama trolled the hell out of A&M by letting them take Fran.

Fran was and is a sack of shite. I'll never forget when he coached Bama and stuck his finger in Saban's face at Tiger Stadium over a laughably false internet rumor (that Saban said Bama players were "criminals", or something like that, IIRC), which Saban vehemently denied. Fran richly deserves his present irrelevancy.
