Worst Experiences as a Visiting Fan

1. Clemson - Self Explanatory. If you aren't wearing orange overalls and don't have Dabo as your screensaver on your phone, then you aren't allowed in "God's Country" as they call it. Their fans consider themselves equal to the traditional powers of College Football and always treat SC fans like shite when we play in Clemson. It's a rivalry though so it's to be expected and our fans reciprocate when they play in Columbia.

2. UCF - A large portion of this fanbase seemed like they were of the guido contingent from New Jersey. Extremely confrontational before, during, and after the game. Very trashy group of people.

3. Georgia - A lot of UGA alumni are awesome. For the most part, a fun fanbase to be around. A lot of their sidewalk fans ruin the experience for visiting fans though. Grown men barking and yelling GO DAWWWWGS can be extremely unpleasant.

lol

It's always funny to me when threads abotu mistreatment or awful experiences boil down to "and people were actually barking! OMG!!"

Buddy if someone barking and yelling "go dawgs" is the worst treatment you've received at an away game consider your life charmin soft and being lived on easy mode

It's hilarious how defensive UGA fans get when someone highlights the fact that grown men barking in your face aggressively isn't something to be overly thrilled about.

Miss St. not even close. A morning game when Prescott was there. Plenty of rude and obnoxious fans. 3 St men talking shite to my wife at the end of our row when she was heading down to concessions. We were on 40 yd line about 30 rows up among season ticket holders. You would think they could show a little clsss.

Nope

Haven't been able to make the trip to Starkville yet. That's pretty wild.

The only time I felt truly unsafe at a game was in War Memorial in Little Rock.

Tim Couch was still the Cats QB. Game was tight and he overshot a receiver in the endzone. The hawgs held on for the win.

As the blue and white faithful began exiting the stadium, the Arkansas trash began throwing bottles and other trash into the UK crowd.

It was pretty surreal.

I've heard some bad things about WVU fans for sure.

As far as individual games:

1. LSU in 2001
The first time back to Baton Rouge after the Cigar game and my gosh, you would have thought Auburn fans had killed Mike the Tiger the way their fans acted

2. Georgia 2007
Blackout Game. Georgia fans are the worst. But confident Georgia fans finally with a good team who are ready to make up for losing 12 of the past 15 meetings in Sanford Stadium are on a whole different level.

3. Ole Miss 2000
Tuberville’s first return to Oxford. The hatred in their hearts actually got them out of the Grove in time for kickoff. They still lost.

Consider yourself fortunate you never had to go watch your team play Bama at Legion Field. Walking to and from the car was the biggest adventure.

They’re shitty as visiting fans too. I went to one of their games against UofL when a kid I worked with played there and asked us to go. The Big East allowed beer sales and they tossed tons of their fans by the end of the first half. After their loss, walking back to cars, they were throwing shite at the UofL fans and busted several windows in one of the athletic parking lots.

For sure. I've seen some real assholes in Columbia as well. I've heard good things about Miss St. from other Gamecock fans who have made the trip.

You act like everyone in Athens gets nose to nose and barks in your face. There might be the occasional idiot who does that but that's not the norm.

South Carolina is the worst for me. It's not that the fans were bad by any means. A few of them actually invited me to do a kegstand at their tailgate on the way in. The problem was the 2010 UGA/SCar game is the hottest sporting event I've ever been to. Watching a game in Williams-Brice at noon in September is like watching a game on the surface of the sun.

In general, if you aren't a dick and you're a respectable human being around opposing fans, you won't have any problems whatsoever and opposing fans will generally be nice. The problems come when SCar fans or Auburn fans come to Athens, talk a whole lot of shite, and then get all pissy when there is retaliation.

Mark May said that Mountaineer fans would pelt them with pennies, and the reason they threw pennies was because they were too cheap to throw nickels.

I literally said a large portion of the fanbase is a good time. Some of your bad fans take it to another level of obnoxious though.

This is the one school I thought would be safe from this list I’ve always enjoyed the short trips over to Starkville, May be the most down to earth fanbase in terms of shite talking and hostility that I’ve come across.

I’ve never had an overall bad experience as a visiting fan and I’ve been to almost every SEC venue. I’ve had a few run-ins with obnoxious assholes, but every fanbase has those.

The most tense situation I’ve experienced was after Alabama’s first win in Jordan-Hare in 1999. There were some Bama fans wanting to roll Toomer’s Corner and a whole bunch more Auburn fans not wanting them to. It never felt unsafe though and cooler heads eventually prevailed.

I was there for a game a couple years ago, (not an A&M game) but everyone there seemed like good, friendly people. They did seem to have some weird hatred toward A&M that I did not expect.
