No its not

at this point in the virus spread in america, you either do full quarantine, or you mitigate the virus by hand washing

Picking and choosing to cancel basketball games, while people are still going into office buildings full of 1000+ people is laughable from a virus containment standpoint

The average age of people who die from CV is like 81

Normal people, especially college athletes, would not experience anything other than a mild cold, if that

You are so dense

So they cancel the tournament

So player A now doesnt play in the tournmanent. So he goes about his life still going to restaurants, outside etc etc. When doing so, he is coming in contact with people who work in office buildings with 1000 people, people with kids who go to school with 1000+ people, etc etc

So player A still comes into contact with so many people that have contacted so many other people, but canceling his basketball game makes you feel warm and fuzzy because it makes you think it protects his grandma when he visits her

The logic is mindnumbingly ignorant

Not what I said at all.

The impact of CV is no different than any other seasonal flu. Do we shut down March Madness or big events during flu season?

They are not the same

But I am just perplexed at why people dont care to take these "preventive measures" for the flu, which does kill around 50k annually in the US alone

I mean, if its selfish to care about basketball tournaments and events because it may kill people, I dont see how why we ever hold these events during the winter

Hell, we dont even make people do something as simple as taking the vaccine

BUT ITS A LEFT WING SCAM!!

Seriously though, someone tell me what happens when the first player is diagnosed with the coronavirus. What do you do then?

And if anyone brings up the fricking flu,

The virus itself definitely isn't a scam but the media freak out over it is. This same media was ripping the president as racist for his travel ban on China in late January. You didn't hear a peep from them about this virus then because they were too busy with impeachment. Now they act like half the people that contract the virus are going to die quick painful horrible deaths. Some media members are even reveling in the fact that this is "Trump's Katrina".

What happens when the first player contracts the virus? The player will be quarantined, monitored and treated for symptoms such as headache, fever, coughing, sneezing, and possible difficulty breathing, etc for probably 2 or 3 weeks or perhaps as long as a month before almost certainly recovering (assuming the player has no serious underlying medical issues) the way over 95% of people with the virus already have.

The media, on the other hand, will proclaim that all human activity within a 50 mile radius of the player be shut down therefore sending people into an unnecessary panic therefore further contributing to serious short term damage to the economy which will most likely end up being the greatest legacy of this particular pandemic.

The initial jumps in numbers of reported cases will further send the media in a feeding frenzy further panicking the public doing further disproportionate damage to the economy and stock market.

Ironically, as testing for the virus becomes more widespread and the reported number of confirmed cases spikes in the coming weeks, the ratio of deaths to confirmed infected people drops dramatically the few responsible media outlets will begin to acknowledge that the virus while very serious is much much less deadly than initially thought.

In the meantime, the media will continue to ramp up the panic in order to inflict as much economic damage with the goal of causing as much political damage to the president as possible. The first player will have long since fully recovered from the virus but you will likely won't hear a peep of it in the media as long as the panicked reporting is having it's desired effect.

Why cancel it? Why not just not have a crowd outside of family members of players? Everyone can still play, and everyone can still watch on TV. Most the money is TV money anyway, right?

Canceling March Madness would be stupid. What else could I do with my entire Friday off next week?

Please answer without getting mad

If I told you, "only" 50,000,000 people would be infected in the US by COVID-19 and "only" 50,000 would die this year in america would you be ok with not cancelling the tournament and other events?

Are you honestly trying to simplify this to a button choice between basketball games or 50,000 dead?

Is that actually the way you want to phrase that?

I am asking a simple question

If we have games and all events as normal, but in doing so that means 50k people die, is that too much? Should we cancel everything in order to help lower that in your mind?
