He is the passing guy all day but in his first year, especially missing spring, will he use Kylin Hlll more than he usually does in a running game or will he stick with the air raid and put him in open situations catching the ball?

If Leach had a full spring to teach I’d say Hill catches more passes since he is dangerous in the open field. Not that he won’t still do that but it seems to me this would be a good year to mix it up and rush for some yards. I have no idea what his plans are but those are my thoughts. What say you?

Nothing about his history even remotely indicates Hill will run the ball much. Your rushing attack is going to plummet to the bottom of the NCAA rankings so you should prepare yourself for that now and just be ok with living and dying by the pass.

He’s also gotten off to a slower start at both Tech and WSU. You will say that he’s got more talent at State and he does, but he is also playing much better defenses than in either of those conferences.

I kinda agree and that bothers me to a degree. We both know Leach likes to pass all day but like they say, a good passing game opens up the running game and vise versa.

I guess it would depend on how much success he has throwing the ball but knowing Leach, I can see him saying “Why run when we are having success throwing.”

Just hate to see Hill not get a lot of carries.

Agree totally and with missing spring, this is why I brought it up. To ME, he should mix it up this year but then, he don’t mind losing that while he puts in his offense so I guess it’s a who knows situation.

I think running backs in his system generally get a typical amount of touches. It’s just that many of those touches, as you point out, will be short passes. I saw Hill was very excited about the change. If anything, I think this makes him more dangerous.

But all that to say, I think Leach runs it the way he always does. Traditional rushes will be drastically reduced but there’ll be plenty of Hill.

The man is not a robot being run by IBM punchcards people. If his system opens up the run game and Hill is as good as advertised. You will see balance.

Leach has running backs that run very well.

I'm just grabbing years...

2019:

WSU The top 2 back rushed for 6.4 and 6.9 yards per carry. They combined for 12 Tds. The top RB had 86 catches...

MSU the top 2 backs averaged 5.6 and 5.2. with 16 Tds. Hill had only 18.

WSU has had a RB in the top 5 in catches every year that I looked up. and they had roughly 50 plus catches.

I don't think Leach is in a WSU position at all. I think Hill will explode in the run game when they run.

Enjoy the first 2 years with Leach, they will be fun. Years 3 and 4 will be flat and his shtick will get tiresome and no longer be that funny.

Year 5 is when he really starts to alienate the admin and they start figuring out how to get rid of him.

Like I said, you have 2 solid years of fun ahead of you.

The same he has done everywhere he’s been. Be a 6-8 win team with an occasional 10 win season.

This contract may be his last as coach. He will have plenty of money to live comfortably in Key West.
May try for a desk job with the SEC Network.

Maybe. Year 3 with TT and Year 4 with WSU he won 9 games.

Year 9 with TT and year 7 with WSU Leach won 11 games and finished ranked #12 and #10.

Not when you have three yard splits between your OL players. Huge gaps for the opposing teams lbers to take on the rushers without getting blocked.

If he does that at State we'll make a statue of him

Leach will be Leach. You will pass the ball 70+ times per game and run it about 10 times.

Good. Our slot receiver will be wide open in the middle for an easy 6 yard gain.

Realistically, if I were a MSU fsn, I am looking for a well coached team regardless of record. Does the team quit in blowouts? How well does the QB play? I have watched ML teams for years, and his QB is the driver for his team.

First, he will have his arse handed to him in Baton Rouge. After that, who cares?

The no spring but added fall practices will help our offense as the transfer QB from Stanford was not available in the spring. Defensive coordinator isn't too happy with our defensive players right now, but some of that may be coachspeak.

I do know our new strength coach was working them hard in the winter before the pandemic.
