I think MSU is okay with that.
Now this is solid, informed thinking from a fellow SEC West member.
We are fine with exactly what you described; as those are reasonable expectations and ones that spell football season excitement.
The bad part about playing in the SEC West is that you have to play so many perennial power programs (and lots of very solid ones too), but the good part is that you get to play those programs, and when you win, it's fun as hell.
Like another poster said, keeping the big boys "honest" is a big factor in how the State fanbase measures a coach's success. JM failed miserably at this.
You give me perennial 6 to 9 wins with an occasional run into the 10 win territory and throw in an upset or two, thereby wrecking the shite out of one of the big dog's seasons, I will personally help pay for the statue.
That's fun football, and doing it in The West means you are in the top tier in overall teams regarding how solid your program is. It's the exact template that got us out of the perennial shitditch dwelling tier of teams (not winning titles and championships) and for that, we cannot complain.
On the contrary, any State fan who has been around for awhile is quite thankful for our current situation, and the template you described can be attributed to this satisfaction. At the end of the day, what most (if not all) college football fans want is not titles, but rather, excitement. If games and seasons are exciting then that's money well-spent.
Hell, excitement is the entire reason for the invention of competitive team sports. That's what we pay for; that's what we want.

What is “success” in Starkville? Will he win the west, I doubt that he’d beat LSU, Auburn, and Bama in the same season. Will he go to bowl games consistently? Yes I believe he will do that and he will recruit some diamonds in the rough.

He'll get paid millions to tell a few stories, eat a lot of catfish and go at least 50/50 with Ole Miss. If that's failure sign me up.

Not a chance.
State has zero talent.
State has zero talent.

Yeah. Probably 8-9 wins regularly and Bowl games

No. He may have them around a steady 8 wins a year. Best you Can hope for at Ms. State

He's a good coach. Gonna be a bunch of 8-4 and 7-5.

Success for State is 7-8 wins per year and a 10 win season once in 6 years. He’ll do that, so yes, by State standards.

So, neck and neck races with Jimbo.

There's little reason why Leach won't be able to do what Mullen did. Maybe he won't take us to #1 in the country for a whole month, but a lot of that was just good timing and the SEC being particularly weak that year.

He has to play Bama, LSU, Auburn, and A&M every single year.
A&M?

Define success. I think he can win 7 or 8 games a year most years and have an occasional 9 win season, but also a 5/6 win one every now and then.

This thread needs more UT and Arky responders.

Who knows, but they will not be like watch paint dry. I would rather lose games with Leaches style than how Mullen lost a few games. In some games he played to keep the game close even in a loss, Leach will not play like that.

Absolutely. And really looking forward to the Egg Bowl.
The SEC West is going to be really tough in 2020.
