Actually after the Bear left, Bama spent a couple of decades doing pretty badly.

It’s a tall task to replace a legend. What Saban has accomplished is incredible. Whoever Bama hires has huge shoes to fill.

Cfb is broken. Saban came in and bought a bunch of 5*s that took him on a run. He back doored into NC games a couple times and got to play teams like ND that never deserved to be there and even knocked out star QBs to win.
Now everyone can buy players and the players arent really tied to the team anymore and even if you backdoor in you still have to beat multiple good teams to win a NC. No one will luck into having things aligned like Saban did. With new rules and protocols teams are now having their hands full will bottom level teams.

Every coach that coached a season between Bryant and Saban had at least one 10 win season. And 10 win seasons used to be harder than now due to less games. Alabama was inconsistent, but they weren’t dog shite.

Even during the darkest 23 years of Alabama football, they had 12 seasons with 9 wins or more and nine 10 win or better seasons. Even with the likes of Perkins, Dubose, Francione, Curry and Shula.
