Well, part of it is because the “ratings” are regular season based. And don’t neccisarily reflect a teams ability to get out of a 4 team series.
In addition, because of Covid years, and less mlb draft picks, the overall skill of the college players is at a higher level. So that talent is more spread out
NIL is bringing talented freshman to college instead of taking the draft money. Which lands talented but often unrefined freshman on rosters who are taking up spots where less talented but more polished older players would normally be. This, combined with the unlimited transfer has allowed the guys to transfer somewhere else to get playing time earlier. And thus spreading the skill level out more evenly.

Shite thread...ban user. Don't follow the sport but ask if it's overrated, damn shame.

So, you're following the SEC Rant instead of watching sports?

Portal is helping players looking for PT a ton, even for intraconference transfers. Austin Fawley transferred from Kentucky to Ole Miss to be a depth piece at catcher, and ends up starting and hitting 20 homeruns. There was literally nothing to indicate that Ole Miss would get ANY kind of production like that from a guy who had been previously been a back-up at Kentucky.

NIL plays a role from a depth perspective, more so in football than baseball. If you are a good picture you aren’t going to go to a premier school to sit on the bench and wait for your moment, you are going to get paid to go somewhere else.

It's baseball. Of the 3 main sports, baseball is the great equalizer. You can have one bad game from your ace or your position players in the regionals that puts you in the losers bracket and it's always hard to win your way out of the losers bracket. It's not just the SEC. Clemson, Oregon, and USM all lost their regionals as well.

Everyone knew TX and OM were frauds this year along with Vandy. Made zero sense for Vandy to get the 1 seed

The NCAA tournament started with the SEC comprising 20% of the field. Now in the supers, the SEC comprises 25% of the field.
The presence of the SEC has grown since the tournament started. What would you take from that?

Maybe one day your baseball team will make it to/out of the regionals

Baseball is very, very fluky. It’s part of why you play so many games. Hits dropping or not dropping can make all the difference, and that can impact even a series.
All that said, I didn’t watch all the other games, but Texas just looked overmatched against UTSA.

The only conference who has fared batter than the SEC so far is the ACC.
Overall, only 25% of the original 64 teams are left. The SEC has 30% of their teams left. The ACC has been the winner so far with 5 teams.
Here is break down by conference of who is left.
ACC: 5
SEC: 4
Big 12: 2
Big 10: 1
Sun Belt: 1
Pac 12: 1
Ohio Valley: 1
AAC: 1
As well as the ACC has fared, one of their national seeds and their regular season champion were both eliminated.

With no real dominate team this year, perhaps FSU wins it all finally?

^This. I think it's wide open in the Supers and at the CWS this year. Arky and LSU may stick out a little but agree there are no dominate teams this year.

Texas was rated fairly low at start of season, new coach, rebuild year, average roster. They actually overachieved, but ok

I think the SEC underachieved relative to their overall baseball resources.
Its the same regarding budget as well.
Note: The budgets are from 2022 and are out of date. Certain SEC teams like Tennessee and Texas are spending much more now.
Tennessee-13,419,669 Texas-11,534,440 LSU-9,989,478 Arkansas-9,159,809 Ole Miss-9,124,735 Florida-6,831,221 Alabama-6,689,112 Mississippi State-6,564,901
Extra Point Article with some updated numbers
I think SEC fans as a whole should expect 6 teams in the super regional every year. If you had blame someone, it would be Texas and Vandy. They both had very winnable regional compared to landmines Ole Miss and Georgia regional.
