Really, I know there was serious talks with Arkansas and USC regarding Marshall...what happened?

Does he not interview well?

Does he just want to stay in Kansas?

What is the deal with Marshall? If I was Auburn, I would shite can Barbree and get this guy to be the head man.

As far as I know he wants something like 3-3.5 million. If Wichita wins this game, he will likely get it.

Why is not Greg Marshall not coaching in the SEC... that's a confusing question.

Wichita State support > 80% of SEC school's support.

Was any SEC schools in serious discussions with him when there was an opening?

Solid point...but you can not tell me if he is coaching teams to wins, then the support would happen.

I think Tenner and USCe did. But like I said, it is my understanding that he has made it pretty clear that he wants in excess of 3 million to leave Wichita. Not many ADs were going to pay that to a guy with his resume, prior to this season. This Elite Eight (or better) run is going to earn him a lot of money.

3 mill? WTF, Cal and Pitino money. That is just crazy, I can see why teams never considered him as a serious candidate.

Does he not have some connection to SOuth Carolina?

He was my choice when we were hiring, been impressed by his teams for a good while. In Arkansas' case his name was whispered about, but MA's connection here won out.

WSU isn't a bad situation, it's not easy to recruit there but there's no football team, it's in a big city that has some Billionaire corporate supporters and the hoops program is tops there.

He is from South Carolina and coached at Winthrop for around ten seasons.

There was a lot of talk about him coming here during last years coaching search. However, I don't think he was ever actually a serious candidate.

I think he enjoys being the top coach at the number one sport at Wichita State. His teams play in sold out arenas with great support. Why leave that?

I believe he does have some connection to SC, but it's slipping my mind atm I know he coached @ Winthrop for a good 7-8 yrs & we went after him hard I believe when we replaced Horn.

I think there's this whole push in the newer generation of coaches to stick it out where they are and take a shot at doing a Coach K type of powerhouse development job.

Basketball doesn't require the infrastructure to develop that a football program does. There's not nearly as much built in advantage by going to a program that's a powerhouse as there is higher expectations.

UCLA doesn't have many things facility-wise better than WSU, but they do have the expectation of winning national championships.

One of my best buddies when I was a kid, his dad was a college basketball coach, He bounced around all over the country until midway through HS when his mom said F it. I'm staying in Fayetteville, we're not following you anymore.

The short tenures at major colleges has to be a factor for some guys that have young families. You're given 4-5 years max to make it happen, and when you do you're likely taking a bigger job by then anyway. It's even worse for pro coaches. The pay scales in basketball doesn't have the $3-4M spreads like football, and you only need 8-11 good players to field a really competitive team.

No way Marshall would even take Auburn's phone call. Wichita State is a better job than most SEC programs.

Great fan support, no football program.

Arkansas, UK, Tenn, Florida are probably the only ones Marshall would take the call from.
