It's my understanding that he took our phone call and showed initial interest in the job(he was arguably MSU's first choice)...Called back an hour later and removed his name from consideration...

Has been rumored that fielded a few calls and found out the extent of our problems and the rebuild/culture change required said hellllll no.

Gamecock fans have been wanting Marshall ever since he had Winthrop being a perennial NCAA tourney team.

We went after him before we hired Horn and FM. I think he always wanted more money than we were willing to give him so we didn't hire him.

It sucks cause he can flat out coach and he's a huge Gamecock fan.

Not sure if Bill Byrne considered him when Turgeon left in 2011. Chances are high that he didn't and just went with the cheapest POS he could find.

On the personal side, Marshall has a reputation as not exactly a people person. You can say that's not an issue, but it is. Especially at a bigger school where the coach is expected to rub elbows with big donors and make them feel special.

I don't know him personally so I don't know if the reputation is true. But it was a talking point when he came up during our coaching search.

He had his bag packed if the Anderson deal fell through.

Marshall has long been one of my favorites.

I'm glad it didn't for multiple reasons
