This is not about what's best for South Carolinas shitty program, which will completely disappear to the bottom of the east forever. It's about how Spurrier decided to end his career. Just like a bitch, like I always knew he was. Glad he cemented that fact for everyone else to see. No excuse to quit mid season on your team and kids. It's best for the program? Really? What? Now they might win 2 out of 5 to finish the year instead of 0-5? O boy!!!! Or maybe the new coach can get a head start on recruiting. What a joke

quote:I don't remember anybody saying it was 'great' for the program but if he's at the point all he can see is the negatives of the situation it probably doesn't hurt the team either. The only people who can answer that are the SC players and they have what, 5 games to show everybody how they feel. I've never been a Spurrier fan for obvious reasons but him being a quitter is not how I see him
No one has been able to explain how this is great for the program.

Dear children,
When you graduate high school and eventually become an adult, there is no such thing as bitch moves or punk moves.
You make decisions best for yourself and your family. Other people may "call you out", but it is okay because they live in a mobile home and you will spend more on a family vacation than they make in a year. And still contribute more to your community than said pessimists ever will.

I think the move was the best thing for USC because this season is lost and they can just focus on getting a new coach.
If I were SC, I would want my team to focus on sending my coach out on a winning note. No matter what, the focus on a new head coach be left up to non-players.

Jesus is this STILL a thing for you?

No he wouldn't.

Because he's Steve Spurrier and other than the Bear he is the man who made the modern SEC,
What? He made Florida great. Not the sec. Florida isn't even a top 4 alltime sec football program. Having a great 6 years stretch is in no way creating the modern sec. Good god. Yes he is the one of the best sec coaches ever but he didn't make the damn sec what it is.

you don't call out a legend
Holy shite. He isn't above reproach. He quit on his team in the middle of the season because they weren't good enough.

This season is a loss already. Don't you think it's better for SC as a program to have more time to prepare for the hire of their next coach?

Instead of quitting he shouldve held a press conference and said he is stepping down at the end of the season and South Car could look for a coach during the season

He's still very involved in the program. He's still in his office at Willy B and will remain there for the rest of the year and Elliott is staying in his office he has already. He will be dropping in on practices and he's still very much in touch with all of the players. He didn't quit on us or his players and I don't get why the hell all y'all give such great fricks about this when WE are the ones this happened to...and we're okay with it.

What? That's exactly what he did. He quit during the middle of the season.

You think I give a frick?
Stating a FACT about a situation doesn't mean you give a shite about it. Spurrier quit during the middle of the season. That's not an opinion. It's called reality

For frick's sake...if it allows you to sleep better at night call it whatever the hell you want to.
And you must fricking care or your arse wouldn't be in the thread to begin with.

More time as in how? The clock starts the moment retirement is announced.

I would think y'all would be celebrating more than anyone. Spurrier has always own y'alls bitch asses.
I think y'all should probably move along and worry about your own program...it's quickly deteriorating into a shitshow that'll be having y'all wishing Richt would get the hell outta dodge.

"Resigned" doesn't mean "quit" anymore, I guess.
I'm suprised by his quitting in the middle of a season, and as someone said earlier in this thread, there will probably be more to this story later. I hope it's not a health issue, but that would make much more sense than for "the betterment of the program". That is a joke.
He could have told Tanner that he was done at the end of the year, and the search for a coach could start now. That's a behind the scenes type of thing, shrouded in much secrecy, regardless of what message board hacks think. Most, if not all of the current staff will not be hired by the new coach. So any excuse about the need for assistants to "shine" makes no sense, and only leaves them in the lurch. That's another issue that would have been just fine if SOS would have just informed the staff and Tanner, and finished the year.
The players. Many of you busted Pocket Aces balls for not knowing what 85 random people think, while assuming to know that 85 players are ok with it. As of now, they don't get to play for SOS in his last games... To win one for the OBC, while still being just as much in the air about their transition to a new coach as they would have with their coach riding off into the sunset.
He quit. Again, I hope it's not because of health of he or his family, but I'd hope there is more to the story than him just up and quitting for those weak reasons.

Spurrier doesn't like to loose. In fact, he hates it. He just couldn't deal with it anymore.

Been out of HS a long time, make good money..and somewhat agree with you. There are times when a man should honor his commitments to others outside of their family even if it isn't what's best for them personally. Not saying this is one of them, but they do exist.
