Well how old was he at the beginning of the season? he knew his age... if they were undefeated right now would he still be quitting bc of his age? come on man... i know he is old but so does he.... he's taking the cowards way out and apparently you and him have the same cowardice mind set.

The guy just fricking quits on his team mid season?

This was my wife's reaction when she found out Spurrier resigned.

I told her (to no avail) that he had nothing left to prove and he felt the time was right. She still thought he was being selfish.

In the end, I don't really think HBC gives a rat's arse what anyone else thinks.

More power to him, I say.

I'm wondering the same fricking thing.

You'd think we have no dog in this fight..and we're the only ones that DO.

Just let 'em fight amongst themselves. Who gives a rats arse what they think as long as the ones that matter are okay with it...GamecockNation.

The man hated to lose....and knew he likely might only win 1 more this year. I think he checked out a few years ago and the players know it to and have quit on him.... He should have quit a year or so back but since he did not he should have took what he had coming....and not quit mid year. He is a legend either way...

But you do care. You're in every thread giving your opinion just like everyone else.

And if he stayed on and went 4-8, people like you would rail on him for staying too long and wasting the rest of the year for them.

By stepping Down he gave other coaches a chance to step up. Plus USCe can look openly for a new coach.

you realize he could have notified them that this will be his last season and he will finish out the remainder of the season and USC could still use this time to be looking for a coach.... you don't just quit...

i don't expect people who have never played on a team past HS to understand this.

How the hell is "I'm done. It's time for someone else to take the reins" stealing the spotlight?

When you know it's over, it's better to get it over with and let the program move on. He doesn't need the paycheck. He has zero left to prove to anyone, including himself.

He explicitly stated he doesn't believe that works because it creates a disconnect with players.

when it's time to walk away, it's time to walk away...life doesn't always afford us the ideal timing.

it's unexpected that his last game would be getting the shite kicked out of him in tiger stadium, where he once owned the woeful LSU tigers. not a big fan of that ending...no offense to the LSU faithful.

No i wouldn't. The coach goes down with the ship he created or he sails into the sunset of victory with them... he does jump overboard half way through

If USCe fans are ok with it, why does anyone care?

But quitting doesn't. You also alluded to accountability, yet apparently that's a one way street with SOS.

Ask the USCe PLAYERS how they feel.... not the fans.... he made a commitment to those players he recruited... not the fans..

Now, now CNB. You didn't actually think this guy actually listened to what Spurrier said do you? That'd be asking too much.

And as mentioned, if he stayed, left after this year he'd still be getting the "he's quitting because the team is bad"

He knows the team is bad, he knows he has done all he can here, and so he understands it's time to move out of the way.

Pretty supportive and understanding of his decision actually.

quitting or not, spurrier doesn't give a shite and he's a cfb legend so he's above any criticism so long as it isn't discovered that he was harboring a child predator.

Actually most talk radio shows are blasting him. Calling him a quitter. That he quit on the team and that is just what he did.
