I believe one of the biggest differences in this game will be quarterback pressure. Currently Alabama is #7 in total sacks nationally. LSU is 51st in total sacks. On offense Alabama is #3 in total sacks allowed, LSU is #73. This could translate to Alabama having plenty of time to throw and the opposite for LSU.

LSU leads Bama in the defensive metrics

Meh. Not really.

Success Rate
LSU: 20
Bama: 1

IsoPPP
LSU: 5
Bama: 108

Rush SP
LSU: 21
Bama: 16

Pass SP
LSU: 3
Bama: 4

Standard Downs
LSU: 16
Bama: 11

Passing Downs
LSU: 3
Bama: 9

One advantage each and 4 pushes. If one deduces that LSU’a defense is “elite” then Bama’s is as well.

FEI stats are a diff story. Only one push out of 16 matchups. Bama has an advantage in all of the remaining 15.

Alabama's defense is being seriously underrated by so-called experts because it isn't as good as previous Alabama defenses. Yet most of the yardage given up by this defense is done so in garbage time when the game has already been decided. When the games have still been in their competitive phases, I'd wager Alabama performs the way a Top 10 defense would.

Another honest question? Bama’s Offense is ranked #2 in the country. The defenses they’ve faced are ranked:

A&M. 33
Mizz. 83
TN. 88
Ark St 93
Ark. 97
ULL. 113
Miss. 107
Louv. 115

Why is Bama’s Offense considered elite?

The same reason Bama's offense is considered elite after playing 8 garbage defenses.

Dunno, but the best defense in the SEC is still Auburn or Kentucky.

#3 and #5 in the S&P rankings. Well ahead of any other SEC team.

S&P+ Defensive rankings

In the advanced stats, LSU is currently sitting #8 in S&P+ defense while Bama is #20.

The difference isn't large, people are just pointing out Bama's defense this year isn't as good as it's used to being, which is a valid point thus far. #20 is a solid defense, but it's out of the elite category.

What's crazy is LSU has played 5 of the top 26 teams in this ranking. Huh, you would think that would affect our offensive statistics, right? Alabama's toughest defense faced is #30, and the others are almost 3 times as worse.

There are a lot of stats being thrown around here about why one team is better than the other. Let's see what happens in 4 days.

You would think that if the opponent is down by 30+, they're probably going to throw it more than run. Which inflates those sack numbers quite a bit. Sure the Bama defense has coasted most games, but we have a bunch of film on your blitz and pass coverage now too.

You are correct on this, and it's what makes most LSU fans nervous about the game.

But the asswhipe of an OP was too stupid to realize that is the real key, and instead chose to focus on Defense, which is LSU's strength. His ignorance clouded his judgment on troll posting. And as pointed out, he doesn't understand numbers at all.

Footballoutsiders takes SOS and garbage time into consideration. So stats account for who you’ve played and rankings are done accordingly.

There is no hiding from this LSU fans

Not really. I'll concede that LSU's defense has better metrics than Alabama's practice squad. But LSU has never had the luxury of getting that deep into their defense at any point this season. In fact Alabama's defense is superior to LSU everywhere except the defensive backfield.
