Now you're just talking out your arse OU nearly lost to mediocre Oklahoma State and TAMU teams. Auburn's only close game was against LSU, they crushed a very good UGA team as well. Auburn had Ben Grubbs and Marcus McNeil on the OL

Auburn played more Top 15 games than OU and USC combined. Also played fewer close games than either. Auburn is the rightful 2004 national champion by every logical measure. But it’s always nice seeing the boot lickers parrot the media talking points.

I don't disagree with that, but the legitimate excuse doesn't fix the crummy schedule

I’m fine with OU getting in over Auburn with the system. They started ahead of them in the preseason and played a tougher schedule. I’m arguing that the SEC being trash doesn’t automatically disqualify them for the discussion.

bullshite. AU had as much talent as USC that year. Check out the NFL Draft from both AU and USCs roster.

USC had a lot of busts from those teams. I liked Bush for the Saints, but he was probably overhyped. Ronnie Brown, Carlos Rogers, McNeil and Grubbs were future pro-bowlers for Auburn. I would've been pulling against y'all since I'm not into conference pride, but that was a clear case of preseason hype overriding logic.

He averaged 6.3 yards per carry and also had 95 receiving yards in that game.

Didn't he get benched after the lateral? I remember he wasn't on the field for the 4th down stop

They opted for White, which was a decision everyone likes to question in hindsight... But White had run all over Texas that night. 124 yards, 3 TDs.

Because USC still retained the AP title. Auburn has no claim.

The NCAA still recognizes USC as the champion as well.

Would've been a great game. OU's secondary was horrible all season. Ask the Aggies about how Reggie McNeal hurt himself b/c he threw too many TDs against OU.

One question I had about USC was how often they face a dual qb. Jason Campbell had mobility. We all know what VY did to them the next year.

Auburn, to me, actually has a better claim... I believe 1983. 1 and 2 lost... shoulda been Auburn.

Auburn would have gotten smoked too. No one was beating USC that night.

Nonsense. Have we really not learned anything about Oklahoma getting smoked in title games yet to not count it for too much?

Auburn beat four top 10 and one top 15 teams in 2004. Seven opponents out of 13 teams were .500 or better. The argument for the weak schedule was centered around the Citadel - I don’t remember hearing that same argument when Bama played them. We all know it was about TV ratings. They got their ratings ...as USC curb stomped OUs arse for everyone to see. Auburn likely would have lost that game too, but we would not have been the shite show OU was.
