USC absolutely still claims the 2004 AP title.

They claim the 2003 AP title also. So was LSU or USC the 2003 Champs? Since both were in "BCS" conferences they should only count BCS titles during the BCS era.

I do. And I claim 1983 too. People want to talk about the 2003 game. Well, ask 2019 LSU fans how much difference a new offense can make from the previous year. And don't forget that Auburn went into LA with a bunch of sophomores in 2002 and barely lost 24-17. USCheat struggled to beat VT in 2004, and they couldn't even come close to scoring on Auburn except for a fumble that set them up in Auburn's redzone when the game was already over. I do blame Tubs for going into Tubbershell mode that game. He should've destroyed VT, and that would have given even more of an argument since USCheat struggled to beat them.

Probably because they didn't win the BCS national title game

AU has a more solid basis for the claim than anyone that year; but I suspect they don't want the stigma associated with making a potentially bogus claims.

Alabama brings a ton of shame and embarrassment upon themselves with their overreach; AU doesn't want to be those people.

You don't believe this

Show me someone who doesn't believe:

1) Auburn would have given USC a much better game; and
2) Auburn would have beaten Oklahoma fairly easily

And I'll show you a bitter, anti-Auburn person who is lying to themselves

When Tuberville becomes Senator , our new AD will claim it. Jay Jacobs was such a dumbass, he didn’t want to piss off Dye and claim it without claiming 83.

What selectors is Auburn using to claim these bullshite national championships?

I'm not a fan of retroactively claiming titles, but
a)this was relatively recent
b) if the NC was vacated, it doesn't seem right that there should be no one listed in the record books
c) there's no other clear runner-up. All due respect to Utah, but they played one of the worst BCS teams ever in Pitt. Auburn played one single score game all season

I see that Tuberville has advocated for claiming it, but it doesn't appear the university/AD itself has made much effort and I'm not sure why

Because nobody awarded them a national championship and they weren't even in the top2.

I’m not anti Auburn at all. I just think it’s funny to see people retroactively consider that Auburn team the rightful champ, all based on USC throttling OU. There is no legitimate reason to think that AU was an outright better team than OU, much less USC

What are the legitimate reasons to assume that 2004 OU was better than 2004 Auburn?

I'm looking at their schedule and they have one marquee game all season before the national title, a 12-0 win against Texas. They also barely edged out a 7-5 Oklahoma State and a 7-5 TAMU in their next two most impressive victories on the season.

We will consult Bama’s SID and see how they did it.
