I took the LSAT twice. Did ok the first time after studying for 2 months, but not as high as wanted. Studied for 2-3 more months and did significantly better.
Studying for the Bar now. At this moment, actually, until I was derailed by this thread. This site is literally all I do in between online lectures and during my cig breaks. Probably explains why I'm typically so ornery.

It's a money thing. They've made it known that if you are a National Merit Semifinalist you get auto admit and scholarship.
I hope you don't think this is a bad thing. Really, the thing most bizarre to me about Alabama's success is why it isn't being copied to the T. They're raising their reputation, making loads of money, and educating people. What a horrible thing they're doing. How dare they give merit based incentives to people who should actually be in college. I think it's really refreshing that there are still some merit based things taking place in the world.

Where do you plan on practicing law?
Somewhere as far south as NW ATL to as far north as Chattanooga (eventually, would have to take TN Bar) and anywhere in between those two places. Trying to decide if I want to look for a job with a firm or hang the shingle out front and open my own place immediately. I'm not really financially prepared to do that, but, it's what I've wanted to do for a while.

Pretty much all he did as well, holed up in his office for a year. Another friend studied for about a month and was good to go

It is actually incredible to me that LSU would allow National Merit Finalist/Semi-Finalists leave the state because others offered more money.

I do like the correlation of the two elite academic SEC schools having more out-of-state students than in-state.

When did I say this was bad? frick.
They are just going to markets with top private schools like NOVA, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, etc and parents are pleased to pay 1/4 of what it cost them to send their kid to HS.

Yea they are finally stepping up. New chancellor wants more recruiters OOS and targeting the top 5% to remain in state.

How does Florida and A&M, both claiming to be elite universities, claim to be such if no one outside of their state wants to go there?

Bama is pretty much just a large community college from an academic standpoint.

I'm a little late to the party, but a kid in the youth group I volunteered for over the past few years was college shopping last year and I ran into him not too long ago and asked him how it went. He had a 26 on his ACT.
Told me UA offered him a full ride. I was sort of shocked. Maybe not legit, doesn't seem like it, but damn.

If you are not in the top 10% of your HS class gradewise, don't bother to apply at TAMU.
This leaves large numbers of private school kids to go out of state to schools such as Alabama which do not have that restriction.
I am from Mississippi and graduated from A&M, there are also has large numbers of international students at A&M.

It shouldn't be to the extent that only 2.1% of your student body is outside of the state of Florida. If Florida is such an elite university, don't you think that more qualified candidates would be there? It just seems as if no one outside of Florida got the memo, and maybe only people with Jort fetishes did.

Why does University of Alabama have so many out of state students?
Sometime around 2005-2006 UA decided it wanted to stop being a smallish regional school that was only focused on Alabama.
Enter Dr Witt, dozens of national recruiters, a palatial campus remodel and expansion, and about 25k new, more diverse, students and faculty. There is still a ways to go, but UA is sprinting in the right direction. Just about every measurable you can think of is improving, maybe aside from parking spaces.

20 and 26 million people compared to 3 and 5, they are also flagship universities. It's the population of the state, they don't need oos, they fill just fine in state with more than qualified applicants

It's not that they don't want to; it's that they can't.
Only the top 10% of Texas HS students are admitted to A&M or UTex.
And it's getting damn tight for that group.
Which leaves next to no spots for anyone else, other than cream of crop out-of-staters.

Does LSU still have the tuition waiver for out of state students with 30 or higher ACTs? That was a good deal
