I knew you wouldn't be that astute. ? Our 19 includes 6 walkons. Subtract the walkons and it's the same.

Why wouldn't walkons count?

Who the hell recruits and signs walkons? And does LSU have zero? LSU and Alabama signed the same percentage of instate players.

I'm confused as to why you're suggesting that walk ons don't count as part of a roster?

The NCAA limits men's basketball to 13 scholarships. Alabama has 19 on its roster because that includes walkons. They only have 13 scholarship players, just like LSU.

Are all 4 of the Alabama natives getting a full scholarship?

One would assume Herb Jones, Petty and Reese are. Is Britton Johnson on scholarship? He's barely played in 3 years.

LSU also has a walk-on white dude. So 3/13 for both schools are in-state and on scholarship.

Herb Jones - Greensboro, AL
Alex Reese - Pelham, AL
John Petty Jr - Huntsville, AL

Next year we'll only have 1 Alabama kid - freshman JD Davison (5-star)

Parker Edwards is a walk-on.

They named a chain of restaurants after him.

ETA: Also Brandon Egemo. If the dude is white and looks like he is still in high school, safe bet he is a walk-on.

You're hilarious. I really would like to think you're really not this stupid. I'm sure others on the board would disagree with me, but I have seen occasional signs of life between those ears.

You're dumbass original post implies that Alabama doesn't recruit very much in state. Walkons have nothing to do with how and where a team recruits. So Alabama had a bunch of out of state students who were pretty good basketball players who decided to try out, and Oats decided they were worth keeping on the roster. How can anyone control how many show up to try out when there are no scholarships available?

By the way...LSU has 15, not 13. You didn't even know that, because you just looked at the official site and didn't bother to look closer.

Yet my point stands. Alabama is not traditionally not a strong state for high school basketball.

BamaGrad

Checks out.

Actually, I wasn't insinuating anything, it was simply a question.

Maybe. I'm not sure. I'm still laughing my arse off at the thought of ST thinking we actually went out and recruited 15 out-of-state players.

The State of Alabama produces a lot of the same types of players it always has - long, rangy athletes with very raw offensive games. It's not a great basketball state but it isn't a terrible one.

However, Pearl and Oats want long rangy guys who can shoot, and the state just doesn't produce a ton of players with that combination. And, in 2021, it's a lot easier to scout the nation and find guys that do fit that profile.

I think it’s a pretty good state for basketball talent. Just not deep every cycle. But like someone stated earlier, the top guys don’t always stay home.

Considering they only play like 7-8 guys most games I would say that's not surprising they have few, if any walk ons right now.

It takes a special kind of stupid to not grasp the fact that walkons may come in varying numbers and from various locations. You simply asked the question? You asked a question that anyone with two brain cells to rub together and who has followed college basketball for more than 15 minutes already knows the answer to. The fact that you couldn't immediately recognize why the extra 6 players and it had to be explained to you is just further proof that you don't do this very well.

You're in a hole, pal. Put the fricking shovel down.

I clearly stated I don't follow basketball recruiting in the OP.

I just thought only 4/19 native Alabamians on a roster was odd so I posed the question.

Also not sure why you're taking it as some kind of slight, a good recruiter brings in national talent, not simply what's in their state.

It was simply a question as to the overall basketball talent in Alabama.

I know Louisiana isn't really a basketball state, it seems it comes third behind football and baseball just based on what I've seen.

I don't really follow college basketball.

ETA I also wasn't referring to recruiting or anything, just found 4/19 curious. If anything, one would think that you'd get more in state walkons than out of state, just so a local kid could say he played on his favorite team.
