I can't imagine more than a couple die hard Penn State fan recruits would sign without a coach

Who knows…There’s no way they truly thought Deboer was going to calling unless they offered him more than Kiffin + high incentives

Not even close.

You must not have been around from the mid 60's thru the late 90's. Penn State was a perennial NC contender.

In my estimation the only blue bloods are Ohio St, Michigan, OU, ND, USC, Texas, and Alabama. But Penn St, historically speaking, is just a notch below the elite. It's easily a top 20 job, possibly top 10.

Penn St Blueblood? lol Alabama put them on the Map and they had a nice run but that’s all it was.

They are a mediocre program with awesome fans and deserve better but they are not even close to being a Blue Blood.

Lanes has been at LSU for 2 days; he's probably got an itch by now. Wouldn't be surprised to see him show up there.

Cruising a number of PSU forums (all currently enveloped in flames), the overall sentiment seems to be: the AD, Patrick Kraft, of the Mac & cheese family, had a personal dislike of Franklin. In a mid season hissy fit, egged on by the BoT and an avalanche of emails, Franklin was fired.

Kraft decided to conduct the coaching search himself, thinking Big Names would be beating down his door.

They didn't.

After a month of silence, Kraft began making calls, but by now all of the significant candidates were in negotiations with other parties, leaving Kraft to unwittingly become third party leverage easily used to sweeten multiple pots.

Not helping has been Franklin and Sexton telling anyone who cares to listen what fools are the PSU admins, even as Sexton and Dowdle and any other agent out there plan to drain every drop of fiduciary blood from Kraft's veins.

Kraft is flailing now, the Mormons just crumbled his cookie, and a lot of candidates are thinking "maybe in a year or two".

Total shitshow.

I do consider Penn State a blue blood and I'll explain why...

First, like so many other teams... they had several "national championships" before the poll era...

But since Paterno first got there in 1966....

Here are some things that have happened to Penn State...

They have had five perfect seasons... but were awarded only one national championship in those seasons....

They have had six one loss seasons... but were awarded only one national championship in those seasons.

They have had twenty seven double digit winning seasons since 1966... and many other eight and nine win seasons.

They match up with any other blue blood out there in terms of their overall performance. They problem is that they have only been awarded two national championships when they have had eleven teams that were probably worthy.

All burned to the ground now. Franklin may become to PSU what Bo Pelini has become to Nebraska.

Has to be some truth to this smoke because it makes absolutely no sense otherwise for Chesney to end up at UCLA over Penn State.

Supposedly after Chesneys interview Kraft decided he was too "raw".

I suspect that means his name wasn't big enough.
