He's plenty good enough to be a national championship QB with the right pieces around him. I'm not sure he's quite good enough to carry a roster there, but very few are. LSU also isn't in a situation where he has to do that.
I think this is a very fair and honest take.

You will learn of Maason Smith soon enough :)

Another way to look at this is… Daniels only has to get a little better, to be good enough, so long as his team mates improve a lot. O line improved a lot during the season last year, and should more improved once this season starts. Special teams can plenty of room to grow and defense is a big question mark. So to reiterate, Daniels is plenty good enough if other aspects of the team show up strong

Historically college QBs have their biggest jump in year 2 of a system if they do improve. This will be the first year in Jayden Daniels career that he returns his OC, HC and entire offense to start the season. Not to mention he has had an entire year to learn the offense and develop chemistry with the receivers. On top of that he isn't in a QB battle this off-season, plus not being a transfer this year makes a big difference in being used to the culture change.
All in all, there's about 1000 factors that should say he should be better this year. Had this been year 3 at LSU then no I wouldn't expect improvement, but this is his first full year with zero distractions as LSUs starting QB. He improved throughout the year, and looked flawless in the bowl game. His potential is legitimately Lammar Jackson, he just has to play to it.

Holy shite. Scoper you are pulling the ole "poke the hornets nest" just to yell "they are mad!"
I remember that strategy.

Scoper’s question is legit. I think the majority of LSU’s fans believe what we just stated, and that we’re hoping that the rest of the team shows up, so we can see just how good he is. Georgia and Alabama are still the preeminent teams in the SEC, but LSU gonna make some noise this this year. Hopefully, in position the move into the number two spot, if not this year very soon.

It’s almost like players can improve from season to season.

Because he has elite speed and should improve from last season.
Weapons are there and best OL LSU has had in a very long time.

It’s a fair question, but I’ve still bookmarked this for the potential premium bumping opportunity.

People thought Joe Burrow was a mediocre game manager after his first year too. YOU NEVER KNOW.
In fairness, he was. Burrow just found that extra gear between seasons.

If he just plays "solid" and doesn't screw up badly, LSU can do fine if everyone else does their jobs.
He's not the caliber of QB to put the entire team on his back though.

JD5 is not a QB that's consistent and efficient at "Matriculating the ball down the field by positively pushing it through the Air."

They had no DL depth last year. Played the whole season with a 5 man rotation and it showed down the stretch. They just ran out of gas. Losing Maason Smith the first series of the year was a killer.

He's certainly no Carson Beck.

George is fricking based.

He almost ran for a 1000 yards as a QB. I'd say he's better than good there.
He takes care of the football. That's big.
He's a good passer, if not great. Combine that with his rushing ability and he'll make some explosive plays.

He can definitely play within their system, but LSU's rush defense is their largest concern. Followed by a lack luster back field
Both spots were addressed with recruiting and transfer portal.

As dynamic as he is with his legs, he just has to be a good passer, not a great one.
I believe that if he can improve to a 3,500 yard passer with 28+ TDs LSU will be very tough to beat. That’s not exactly setting records out there so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. Consistency is his biggest issue.

Hopefully this thread ages like the Serranaux thread about Paul Skenes.
