Football needs (and deserves) an exemption from title IX. Make football co-ed/unisex. You would never have an issue because there is not one chick (a real woman, not Brittney Griner) in the world that can compete at the college level. I don't understand why public schools don't make this move. If all of them did it at the same time and pooled their resources, any organization trying to sue and claim disparate impact (like the ACLU) would be out financed by several trillion dollars. It would be a huge legal fight that no organization could compete with. Sometimes you just have to team up, plan, and make a move, expecting a long and expensive fight.

Because the rationale would be that women are being "discriminated against" and "underrepresented" on football teams.
Rules of performance do not apply to protected classes.

People under 25 also love Justin Beiber...clearly the likes and dislikes of this age group is the litmus test of all things awesome.

Genuinely curious as to why
I'm not a soccer fan, but if I was, I would probably show interest in my university's team (or club)
It's better for the players to just develop in academies, like they do in other countries. If we do well enough to improve development, there's really no benefit to playing in college at all.

The answer to your question is Title IX. However, even considering Title IX it is an embarrassment for men's soccer not to be a major sport in the SEC.

not that id ever go, but answer these folks :
why can Kentucky and South Carolina have a mens soccer team, but the rest of the schools do not?
What male sport do they not have or what extra womens sport do they have to balance for the idiotic Title IX?

Just imagine an all SEC soccer conference with 30,000 fans a game.
Don't let your soccer love blind reality. You'd be lucky to get 5,000 people at a SEC soccer contest. Most MLS teams don't even average 15,000 people and that is in cities full of mexicans.

Yeah I followed the last world cup. It was fricking awful. That championship game was the worst sporting event I've ever seen. Just girlymenjogging around and flopping all over for 90 damn minutes plus fricking overtime. No action, no nothing, just pure gayness. I'm never watching again.
And I WANTEDto likeit.
If you want to watch good soccer, don't watch the World Cup. The Champion's League is much more exciting. Players play with their club team every day. They have chemistry and the games are generally played at a faster pace because of this. National teams only play a few times with a lot of space in between. When they are together, they have little time to practice.

Not enough 8 year old prodigies or Eurotrash to field a competitive team.

Yeah, I'm srs.
And your stats are due to the fact that there are 9 limp-wristed, unathletic kids with moms "getting them into sports" and no dads for every 1 semi-athletic kid that gets put into real sports. If that weren't the case, american soccer wouldn't suck arse like it does. Argue with me. Try.

This could reflect more on poor coaching and a poorly run youth system, but it's getting better.

Because soccer is a 3rd world sport. We have real entertainment in America. Watching figs kick a ball around for 4 hours for it to end in a 0-0 tie is not fun to watch.
