watching the 97 SEC title game. You think his two interceptions in that game played a role?

The ESPN machine was all in on Charles Woodson. Also back in those days, there was a very strong anti-SEC bias amongst the national media iirc

The decision was made when Woodson had his moment scoring a touchdown and striking a pose against Ohio State even though his “two way” stats were very pedestrian and Peyton’s stats were downright incredible for 1997

Also losing to Florida 3 years in a row was a pretty big deal even though it really wasn’t Peyton’s fault. Chavis and VOLS defense got toasted by Spurrier from 95-97

Because Charles Woodson and Michigan. There are blue bloods. And then there are USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. They will always get a media bump over the rest. Even over the rest of the blue bloods.

I think the last 20 years have shifted away from that with more favor given to the SEC now. Since then we've had, what, four SEC schools take home the Heisman?

I feel like the real turning point was 2006 when Florida boat raced Ohio State in the BCSCG. At least amongst the national media. Since then, the SEC always seems gets the benefit of the doubt in these scenarios.

I still remember Herbstreit screaming for a tOSU/Michigan rematch in the natty that year lol

That and Woodson's electric game on offense, defense, and special teams against Ohio State.

Let USC and Michigan have a resurgence and see what happens. Notre Dame would be worse than those two. Ohio State is a step below those three.

And the last 20 years has had a shift. But it has coincidentally seen Michigan and Notre Dame fail to reach their historical norm.

USC of 2002-2008 is a great example of what I am trying to argue here.

Yeah, I remember very specifically that year all the predictions that OSU was going to roll UF before the Gators turned that on its head.

That was also the Cock Block year. Without that, the Gators don't even go to the title game.

But after that game the SEC started ringing off national titles with title game appearances being made by at least 5 SEC schools since that time. It's pretty impressive.

11 catches for 231 yards on the season

The narrative the media has spun like Woodson was some incredible two way player is laughable

0-4 vs his biggest rival in Florida and I say overrated because people actually think he belongs the Sec Mount Rushmore lol. There are much more better players than he was lol
