I do think we freaked out a bit too much about computer rankings not being involved. The committee is entirely too opaque.

The BCS had some good points. Most of all it was very transparent in how it worked. We should keep it in place and let it be used to pick the best teams. The system we have now keeps some of the specifics undisclosed so they can "secret squirrel" the results if needed. There is no doubt they are matching up the teams they want.

I noticed the bottom of the bcs simulation includes the AP poll... didn't they take their ball and go home around the time uscW wasn't selected as the bcs champion?

I haven't thought much of the AP poll since... I mean they agreed to it at the beginning and then wanted to say "Nah..."

It doesn't even matter right now until after regular season. It is set up in a way where it will sort itself out after the CCGs.

So Tennessee could be higher than Indiana and LSU higher than TAMU

I think there needs to be a computer rankings component like there was with the BCS but also a committee component. Weigh them 50-50 for a true rankings.

As far as the BCS days of selecting the top 2 teams and playing for a title, I'm glad thats well past us. Playoffs are just much more fun and really lets things play out on the field rather than trying to 2 choose the 2 "best" or "most deserving" teams out of a field of 130+ teams which is just ridiculous to even type out

The computer was never the issue. It’s was that only two team playing.

I have no problem with that computer rankings. Now let’s let the teams play it out.

It's pathetic that high schools and the NFL have a definitively better playoff structure...

No question.

What is the argument against it?

Alabama will not be one of the teams to make the playoff.

Yeah, the AP bowed out of being used in the BCS due to the idea that it was a conflict with the ideals of the organization to actively take part in creating news rather than reporting it. For whatever that's worth.

People just use it to make these "what would the BCS have had" hypotheticals.

In regard to the transparency of the BCS mentioned by some posters. That the creators of most of the computer polls would not make their "formulas" transparent was one of the major complaints against the BCS. Many of us remember well that the same "conspiracy theories" about getting the best TV rated teams into games then centered on the lack of transparency in the computer polls.

Yes, they were pulled out. BCS replaced it with the Harris Poll, which was human based committee like input.

I'd like to see them throw out the AP and Coaches Polls, as they are essentially worthless.

But, then kluge together the current committee rankings with the last BCS computer polls. Give the BCS committee poll the the combined weight of the Coaches and Harris polls from the old format. You keep priority on humans voting, but balance out with more objectivity from computer polls to mitigate bias.

The problem is, teams are not satisfied with consolation bowl games. The BCS and the 4 team playoff tried to satisfy the teams that didn't make the 2 team, then 4 team playoff by letting them play in NY bowls. But no one was happy about that. If you don't have a shot at the Natty, then its a bust and 'What's the point?". Especially now that you have players that are opting out of 'meaningless' bowl games so they can move on to their NFL careers. Take a look at our disintegration of FSU in the Orange bowl as a great example of this.

Give more teams a shot at the natty to keep everyone from saying, 'What's the point when only UGA, Bama, Ohio st and 2 or 3 others are going to have a better chance than a snowball in Hades of getting in."
