The SEC did not seek Texass or OU. ESPN plus OU/UTX sought the SEC.

Alabama has better programs, but I was just talking about $$$. Texas has the highest GDP of any state in the conference by a good amount, and they also love their football

A&M is about on par with Baylor. SEC is probably a little disappointed in the return they are getting from adding them and Mizzou.

No offense to A&M and Mizz but if SEC had a choice between 2 teams to take back in 2012 of the four: OU/TX/A&M/MIZZ.
It would have been TX/OU 100%.

Thanks for the rational post. You are in rare air on the rant.

To answer your question, I believe that the Texas population is so large and truly "a house divided" between A&M and Texas fans and alumni.

As much disdain as I have for that school, they did a masterful job of branding when Mack Brown got there, IMO.

I also think the matchups will put a lot of eyeballs on television, as mentioned earlier.

It will be interesting to see how much love many of the SEC folks show for them once they have to be conference-mates with them and you see what they are about.

Lastly, the real headshaker for me is that they are not even close to a good cultural fit for the SEC. Every other school will hate them as much as Ags do, and it won't take long.

I'll do you the solid of not just assuming you are a dumbass, but A&M's athletic department, as a whole, is one of the best in the SEC.

Also, A&M and Texas have the two richest Athletic Departments in the country.

Don't let your hate for A&M cloud your thinking.

2 NCs in 20 years - Ohio would rank below several SEC teams. Based on braggadocio, Ohio would give Texas A&M and Tennessee a run for their money.

When was the last time A&M won a national title?

There are 8 million people in 16 counties that surround DFW.

No telling how many around Austin, I'd guess 2-3 million.

So the SEC has potentially 10 million new viewers by adding Texas and Oklahoma. What was your question again?

Stub Hub just announced the Texas-Bama game has the highest consumer interest of any game in the nation so far.

Oklahoma I could understand as a new market value.

I don't get this argument.

Texas has a population of nearly 29 million versus Oklahoma with less than 4 million.

It's not a single market but rather a mega state (size and population) with multiple major markets.

Same with Florida, heavily populated, multiple large markets and a relatively large state that spans nearly 900 miles from the Alabama state line to Key West.

Seems like further expansion into heavily populated areas
makes more sense than expanding into Kansas or West Virginia as some are suggesting.

Because the current trend for expansion is about branding and the strength of the TV catalog (inventory). Yes, additional markets are nice, but the SEC already covers every state in the American SE. (In other words, the major conferences expanded last time... minus the Big XII... to build out a TV footprint for the conference networks, but for this expansion, it's about strengthening the quality of the content being broadcasted on those networks.).

Austin, Texas has beem hijacked by the Liberal left extremist....except now they might need more cops beause crime is bad.....now in politician hoods.

Dude, I know that living in Mississippi you wouldn't know this but wokes don't got to football games. They won't bother you. But you still might want to watch where you step in Austin as you head for the game. Between the homeless and Bevo it is pretty much a minefield...

The Aggie market isn't as big as Aggies like to believe it is.

Any evidence to support Aggies’ delusions of grandeur with regards to our share of the market? Or is this another one of your sidewalk “facts”.

Most Aggies would agree with this data (except Syracuse):

The regional TV market concept is an archaic way of thinking. Viewers can now stream any game pretty much anywhere. It’s more important to think of national brand vs. regional market.

Even though they suck arse, t.u. has a lot of t shirt fans across the country. They are like the cowboys. Very polarizing, either you love them or hate them but either way you’re watching.
