Not saying that....but I asked to give a logical explanation...can you?

Sure. Nutt was a suck up. Suck ups get raises and extensions. Nolan was a pain in the arse to an AD. They don't.

What logic can you provide that would substantiate giving Houston Nutt an extension and not give your National Champion, National Runner Up, 3x Final 4 participant, Several SEC Championship Head Basketball Coach an extension?

Two reasons.

1. Football is the money maker. 95% of schools pay their football coach more.

2. This wasn't 2005 HDN vs. 1995 Nolan. This was in 2000 when HDN had resurrected Arkansas football in his first two years, just spanked Texas in the Cotton and Nolan hadn't made a Sweet 16 in 4 years and would've missed the tourney if not for winning the SECT.

My dislike for Richardson was only exceeded by my dislike for John Robinson at Georgetown. They made everything about race. Maybe it was but diplomacy goes a long way in negotiations.

Crap. Thompson. As in John from Georgetown. That one. But I didn't like John Robinson either.

Same they said about Georgetown and John Thompson...but not about Rick Pitino when Kentucky was doing the same thing...

I wonder why?

Program relied and thrived on recruiting junior college players. The winning and recruiting of JUCOs attracted the attention of the NCAA investigative wing because of eligibility concerns.

These NCAA allegations led to 16 month investigation and toxicity levels grew and grew within the athletic department between Broyles-Nutt-Richardson.

Some history here

Nolan firing led to Frank wanting to hire Bill Self but John White wouldn’t allow him to offer Self more $ than Nolan had been making. Allowing Ilinois to outbid Arkansas and Self stayed where he was before leaving for Kansas.

Dr. Sugg (President of all UofA systems) and Chancellor John White felt by paying less and hiring a black HC it would keep Nolan from suing. When your administration isn’t smart and can’t read a situation you end up like this.

Nolan sued to put Frank and others on the witness stand under oath. Make them admit how he was treated.

Arkansas basketball went from Nolan to hiring Kent State HC Stan Heath then Dana Altman for a day then John Pelphrey and Mike Anderson for last two decades.

Did they testify? Did they prove discriminatory practices against the school?

As I've said before, Nolan Richardson and I shared the same bank, and by some odd quirk of timing would be in there about the same time on the first of the month. He was always very nice to me and everyone else there.

I think the combination of the investigation (which didn't lead to anything but caused a lot of misery for Arkansas) and sheer program fatigue is what wore him out and caused the decline we had his last few years. Fighting tooth and nail with Frank Broyles for that many years will take it out of you.

The Nutt era didn't even begin until 3 years after Nolan won the national title. By that time, Arkansas basketball had already fallen off some.

I followed basketball recruiting fervently back then, and at the time, I didn't think our recruiting was going well. Many of our players were overrated and didn't fit well into Nolan's system, imo. The #1 class was about numbers, but when you consider that it was nearly an entire roster, you realize that it wasn't anything special. Who knows if this was entirely due to the shameful NCAA investigation, but it certainly contributed to it.

We didn't recruit many Texas basketball players back then, and at that time, I don't even think Texas was producing many bluechips in basketball. The only Texas player I can remember for certain was Lee Wilson, who was a backup center off our national title team. I think there were others earlier in the Nolan era, but Memphis and Tulsa were Nolan's big recruiting grounds.

Interesting, considering how Arkansas hired a black head basketball coach before any other SEC school. Wade Houston was the first in the SEC, but Nolan had been at Arkansas for a few years by that time.

The NCAA went on an undeserved witch hunt in 1996 that resulted in Arkansas' #1 ranked recruit class to break up. The NCAA looked hard and found nothing...They even apologized and gave Sunday Adebayo a semester back....(He transfered to Memphis and played out his eligibility because of the witch hunt)...He came back to UA and played a semester that the NCAA gave him back) ..(unprecedented) In short, I truly believed this killed Coach Richardson's momentum. I loved Nolan and truly miss Arkansas being feared and dominating in Basketball! Between the Sutton and Richardson years, The Hogs were on a major roll. It is in our DNA to be elite in basketball and with the right coach I feel it will happen again. I lobbied for Mike to coach Arkansas back to glory but unfortunately I now do not think he is the answer. (Been feeling this for a while now) I Still respect Mike and love the guy..but I just want to win again!!!!

correct. Heard they are in meetings with aTm to pair up and go back on hands and knees begging Texas and OU to take them back.

It's amazing how people don't understand things like this

JT and Nolan didn't make things about race, they pushed back against clear racial undertones directed at them and their teams

This.

Nolan's style was called N**** ball.

Rick pitinos style was called up tempo

Go back to what the national media was saying in the 94/95 title games. "Arkansas isn't smart enough to win"

The 94 and 95 teams had three future NBA players. Richardson never had that many again. That's either the answer or a symptom of the answer ...
