Imagine this scenario play out....

1. LSU and Bama don't rematch instead one plays Okie State and the other Stanford or Oregon..... whats going to happen? We are going to have two blow outs, SEC Dominance on display big time.... all of the work this year trying to show that the SEC is becoming weaker has been lost as we crush the contenders

2. LSU and Bama rematch in another defensive classic while the others play each other in offensive showcases providing the argument that the winner of these bouts would of/could of beat those SEC offensive less teams

Which scenario is the lessor of two evils? provides you with the best spin job? if you want to downplay SEC dominance....

This is one reason why I am against a rematch. Oh yea there is also that 9_6, lack of conference championship, and rubber match thing going on too....

1 - LSU beats bama convincingly in New Orleans and 95% of the country will holler it should have been someone else.

2 - LSU beats OSU convincingly and 5% of the country will continue to whine and bitch they didn't get a "fair chance".

Either way - it's a win-win for the Tigers.

What irks me is that people just assume when LSU and Bama rematch that it's going to be another 9-6 game. Yeah, the defenses are still going to be nasty, but how quickly folks forget how close both teams were to putting up more points. In Bama's case alone, they missed a ton of FGs and also had a pass that should have been completed at the 2 yardline ripped out of the receiver's hands as he hit the ground. LSU had promising drives that stalled as well. Given the ridiculous amount of time between the SECCG and the BCSNCG, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few wrinkles in both offenses produce some points come January.

Unless LSU loses, that is.

Who cares about spin jobs, blowouts, (<--that sounds vaguely sexual) and reputation? The two best teams should play.

If people can't admit that the SEC is the best conference by now, they never will. frick em. If the two best teams are in the SEC according to the BCS, then they should play. We will all find out in 5 days.

If Alabama wins, it will feel a little weird to win the NC without winning the SECC, but the NC won't count any less and I won't enjoy it any less.

i don't even see how Alabama can think they deserve a chance to win the championship after loosing at home.... especially if Okie State wins....

on another note.... it would be good to see LSU and Bama face off against the cream of the crop outside of the SEC...e.g. how would a Luck Offensive do against a stout defense....

Dude, Stanford lost at home.
Also,
03 LSU lost at home to Florida, won the NC
07 LSU lost at home to Arky, won the NC.
08 Florida lost at home to Ole Miss, won the NC.

Why do you want to create a rule that you have to go undefeated at home, just for this year?

I think Bama is the 2nd best team in the country but what if LSU and Bama play and the rest of the SEC goes 0fer and the Big 12-4+2 kicks arse?

We aren't. LSU did not play against UF in the 03 title game. LSU did not play against Arky in the 07 title game. UF did not play against Ole Miss in the 08 title game.

It's apples and oranges, dude. No one is saying Bama doesn't have a case, or wouldn't be worthy. All LSU fans are saying (much to the chagrin of Bama fans) is that Bama had a crack in November and lost. If a decision had to be made today, then yes, Bama should get the nod. However, if OSU wins next weekend, a very, very strong case can be made for them over Bama. One reason being they have not already lost to LSU.

So, we keep Bama out because that could possibly happen? (but definitely won't)

Here's a hypothetical, what if the SEC had just won 5 straight National Titles in convincing fashion, and was the undisputed unquestioned King of College Football?

What if the current undisputed #1 team from that conference played the tightest game imaginable against another team, where either team could've won, and it came down to field goals and overtime? What if that was that team's only loss, and they had blown out every other opponent, with nearly identical margins of victories as the #1 team?

But you base who's deserving on their resume, not based on who they might play against. In 03, 07, 08 it didn't matter who they played against in the BCSNC, they deserved to go. Who they're gonna play is irrelevant.

I gotta agree with the OP. Nothing against Bama, because I think Bama and LSU are the two best teams in the country. I'd just prefer to see them both beat somebody else to a pulp.

Besides, if there's a rematch, an SEC team will have lost in the BCSNCG for the first time.

lost at home against the team that you are going to play in the championship is what I meant....

if you win this game, we won the last... what does that prove... hence all the split championship discussion....

The rest of the SEC won't go 0-fer, but with our two best teams facing each other instead of beating up on the best teams from other conferences, there's an increased chance our bowl record won't be very good this year.
