If we are talking just total yardage yea, it's going to be whoever plays QB at Mississippi State until Leach is gone. Every season.

And if it isn’t Miss St, Leach won’t last very long with as many times he likes to throw...

Yea, it's basically equivalent to asking who will lead the nation in rush yards?

Yeah maybe starting next season that’ll be the case, but our receivers are shite until they prove otherwise. In order to throw 50+ times a game you actually have to move the chains.

It might not be super-efficient, but they'll throw 55 times a game for 285 yards or something even on their bad days.

It's just that their total yardage will be 293 or something and their Yards Per Play will be like 4.2 and they'll have 8 3 and outs. It will not necessarily be a "good" 290 yards.

Not when it comes to purely putting up yards and they are not going to be playing SEC heavyweights every week. Their style might not win but they are going to put up a huge amount of passing yards when the season is over.

Hell, even when they play the better teams and are getting blown out. They are going to throw for plenty of yards in the 4th against the 2nd string.

If Mac starts the whole season, I think he throws for more than Costello. JMO.

Leach's QBs at WSU averaged fewer than 360 ypg one time the entire time he was there. That was his first season when they averaged "only" 330 ypg. To clarify, I'm talking about team passing ypg. In his first season at WSU, he had a two QB system, so neither averaged a ton of yards per game individually.

JRP for sure. He put up a blistering 910 yards passing last year under offensive juggernaut Matt Luke

In reality no idea who wins the job this year. Kiffin will get the most out of JRP and Corral

Washington St was a whole more devoid of talent when he got there than State will be this year.

And this is why the whole SEC defense argument is not as relevant.

Is Leach going to see more difficult defenses than his time in the PAC 12? Yes but he also should have more talent to work with while at MSU.

First season in the SEC. New qb. No spring ball.

I think a lot of people don't know exactly what an air raid offense is either. You don't need a great OL to chunk the ball around 50+ times a game and not get sacked. The entire point of that offense is to get rid of the ball immediately. They will use WR screens in bunch formation, RB flats, etc as "running plays." They'll run hurry up the entire game. They'll be in the shotgun the entire game. SOG said it very well. They may be inefficient and may not score a whole lot, but when you run the ball 10 times and throw it 55-60, you'll rack up some passing yards. They'll be "empty" stats but they'll very likely lead the SEC in passing yards per game.

Alabama fans. Alabama is NEVER going back to a run oriented, ball control offense. Those days are gone and they should be - if they want to stay relevant with elite wide receivers and QB prospects.

This post reminded me of WVU’s passing stats vs LSU in 2011 where they threw 75% of the time and still lost to us 47-21.

38/65
463 yds
7.1 avg/pass
2 TD
2 INT
73.4 QBR

But a big difference, of course, is that Miss St doesn’t have Geno Smith...

100%, some think they are getting 5 WRs to run streaks. That would be a huge issue with a weak Oline.

On some of the designed passes, there could literally be zero Olinemen on the field and the pass will still get to the receiver.

I think Tisdale has a good shot at winning that job

MSU doesn't have the weapons Bama has or LSU for that matter. I think Costello will get broken if he passes 50 times a game. You give up something to get something. Burrow was great avoiding pressure and he still got hit, a lot. Add 15-18 more passes per game and Costello's season could end early.

Leach's offense is get the ball out quickly, in the end Bama/LSU just dont throw it near enough to offset an extra maybe 15 passes a game Costello is throwing. If we're talking total yards, only hope is MSU only plays 12 games and LSU/Bama go 14-15 games in to makeup the raw difference through higher yards per attempt and more games simply, but again, total yards is rather pointless to compare if 1 person played 15 games and another 12, it should ypg at that point.

Wazzu didnt have weapons like the rest of the PAC-12 either, didnt stop Leach from throwing it over 50 times a game many seasons there. It's just his offense. RBs mostly irrelevant.

I don't think you understand Leach's offense, he's going to throw the ball, and throw it regardless of the outcome, with the 1st, 2nd or 3rd string QB.

He threw the ball 77% of the time last season (in a 7 loss season), seventy-seven percent. HE doesnt care about the result, it's just his offense.
