You have an opener against TCU, two cupcakes, and then your first SEC game against AU. We are @Clemson, Carolina at home, a bye week, and then North Texas. Yes, we will have essentially two weeks to rest our starters prior to the game and will play one less game in the same four week span, yet we will be more battered.

Big shock: I'll take LSU.

I'd say Mett wants this game worse than anyone knows. And there are bound to be a couple of Georgia defenders still having nightmares that 'Kenny Hilliard is coming to get me'....

You're inevitably going to have less fresh legs since you played your SEC opener the week before compared us having an off week and a game where our starters will play one half.

You'll most likely have somebody sprain an ankle or whatever against AU and he has no time to recover. If we have anybody injured on our off week or against North Texas then it will be a sad facking story. Any minor sprains or 2 week recovery period injuries that we sustain against CU and USCe should be good to go by week 5.

And don't act like AU will be a TOTAL cakewalk for y'all. They'll be energized with a new coach and almost beat you last year.

Georgia could see some major injuries against clemson and south carolina in consecutive weeks

LSU will virtually be be rested and ready because our opening schedule is so easy

And Georgia has a very good chance in starting the year 0-2

We very well could be...and we reeled off 10 in a row with a much weaker team 2 years ago after starting 0-2.

Has anybody besides LSU fans chose LSU in this thread? The Alabama fan who judging by his name is from Louisiana?

Since it happened 2 years ago it's likely to happening this year?

Of course people are going to pick UGA. It's a safe pick

Absolutely not, but apparently our HC knows how to handle it. Plus, we're talking about winning one game against LSU, not 10 in a row.

Tough road game, besides 09, have to go back to the 80s for the last W in Athens, even though keeping in my it is a rare trip. I'd say Georgia will win, QB edge to Murray. Could be a big year for Georgia.

UGA's offense is going to be unreal this year. 10 starters returning on a very balanced offense that can pound you with the run game and then go no huddle spread on you just as well if they feel like it. There is no one player you can focus on shutting down. There is no weak spot. A 4th year starter at QB, all 5 linemen returning, an All American at HB, and a stud WR. It's about as good of an offense as you can imagine. The defense will have some growing pains, but if Richt can't win a national title with this crew, he likely never will.

I think LSU's O-line will be downright nasty by the UGA game and we should be able to run the ball relatively easy. Chavis will have the D ready. I'm thinking a close game something like 28-24 or 24-21 either team could take it!

All I was pointing out was that LSU was winning because of their defense, NOT because of Mettenberger. While I believe your "D" will be excellent this year, it won't be as dominating as it has been the last 2-3 seasons. If Mettenberger puts up performances like he did last year you can count those games as losses this year....do you seriously disagree?

In 2011 LSU went into Atlanta with a very young defense and the 100th ranked passing game and 62nd ranked total offense.

Result: 42-10.

Conclusion: LSU can win without good QB play.

I certainly agree with you there. It really isn't about 1 stud receiver, though. I truly think, in the end, the best thing about the offense is that Murray has about 10 receivers ( including 2 TEs that can block and catch) that he is VERY comfortable playing pitch and catch on any down. When you add in the two TBs that are also excellent receivers, that is a helluva job for any defense to defend.

The depth on the offense brings up another point for me, though. Unless UGA just gets wiped out by injuries, this is the first year that UGA will be fielding anything like a true 85 scholarship team in at least 2-3 years. By the SEC CG UGA was in the upper 60s in the number of true scholarship players that were available (and this number includes redshirts that were being held out unless absolutely needed.) This team was able to sign over 30 players in this past class and still was 2 short of the 85 limit. This year's defense may not be as experienced, and possibly not as talented at a couple of positions, but Jesus at least they will be able to rotate so you don't have the DL playing nearly the entire 60 minutes. I think this is why most UGA fans believe that the defense could be better statistically this year. It will also help that half the defense will hopefully not be missing the first four games.

Oh, on the Mett vs. Murray comparison. All I can say is that what truly separated them when both were in Athens was always the mental aspect of the QB games. Murray can certainly get hyped up for big games and lose some accuracy, but he is also an excellent reader of defenses. You just haven't seen it half the time because he has often been running for his life behind some thin OL s where even some talented guys were really playing out of position. Hell in 2011, I am pretty sure UGA was playing 4 OGs and a center most games. Think of is this way- Murray will likely become one of the best QB in SEC history- at least statistically this year, but he was willing to spend his break in Oklahoma to help himself get better. I have no idea what Mett did, but I certainly didn't hear about him seeking out other avenues to improve himself.

Oh, one more thing to add- last year was the first year Murray had an elite run game going for him. Hell, they clinched the SEC East in 2011 with no scholarship RBs on the field....

And LSU will be going into Athens this September with 8 (possibly 9) upperclassmen starting on defense, and two sophs that started all year last season. It won't be young either.

It's also funny when people try to compare offenses to determine who may win because the offenses don't play against each other. Will UGA's defense be able to stop LSU's running game? If not, the Tigers won't need a QB - just like in 2011.

I think we'll be better prepared for it. We have a new d-line coach in Chris Wilson who is high on rotating bodies to keep guys fresh. This is something Garner never really did, and we paid for it in the second half of both SECCG's. We also have more depth on the line than we've ever had so I think we'll be good there. Not a ton of experience but we've got a lot of talent.

This is my concern for the LSU defense, experienced depth on the line. Hopefully our linebackers will catch their slack.

In any case, I'm not calling this game either way, I think it will be a good, close hard-fought game.
