You agree that OU will be the best?

I watched this segment and agree with their belief that most of the top 7 or 8 are so close, it could be interchangeable.

Id say top 6 or 7 and then this a big drop off.

Yeah, Ole Miss is interesting. They were rather mediocre last year and lost some starters.

Echoles is a beast and they brought in some good pieces so I guess we'll see what happens.

It'll also be interesting to see how Pete manages being both DC and head coach.

The only reason we have a defense is Pete handling the high school recruiting the last 4 years. Before Pete every game was a shootout. Good thing because our offense was crap against LSU last year. Not to mention any other team of equal talent. No one knows how Pete will do with being the head guy. But his recruiting isn’t the question.

The pressure is on Kiffin. He has the most expensive team in football next year. LSU gave him their bank account. To go 8-4 should not be acceptable by anyone with the millions spent.

Good thing your HC recognized his weakness and hired Golding

I read the last 5 national champions the defense has given up 12.5 points per game. Defense still matters more than anything.

OU or uga. I trust Kirby smart to field a top flight defense and I really like what Brent’s done on that side of the ball at OU

I agree defense still matters most, but you have to actually know what you are doing now. O lines are much better thanks to the transfer portal but Dlines(the top end ones) have been scaled back. The days of 8 schools being 3 deep with all blue chips on dline are over. You can’t just suffocate teams in the second half with fresh blue chips players coming off the bench anymore.

Saying this doesn't make it true

Do you say anything true?

I think we will be in the 6-8 range among SEC defenses this season. Between our new strength coach and hiring one of the best defensive minds in the game with Knowles, I don't think defense will be our problem this season. It all comes down to young QB play for the vols this year

LSU will be deadly on that side of the ball... Watch the new pieces create havoc. Baker has the pieces to run his blitzkrieg defense. TIGER BAIT!!!!!

I'm as old school as it gets, and defense still matters, but it ain't what it used to be. Venables will see to the defense per usual, but Mateer will prove once again whether the Sooners make a run. (See INTs.)

I'm hoping Texas can get 2-3 years out of Muschamp before he's ready for another head coaching gig. With the Texas talent and Coach Boom, maybe Texas defense is the strong part. He could also help out with Special Teams if egos stay in check.
He'll be 55 this August so it's getting close to him making one last shot at a HC gig if he's so inclined.

It's Venables and the talent he brings there plus the track record of the last 2 seasons, it's going to be OU

Yes, your defense will be mid, just like the rest of the team. Enjoy the Gasparilla Bowl

2021 Ole Miss had a top 30 defense, FEI wise.
