well that's goofy. They can win all the rest of the games including the SEC title (not going to happen) and they'd still have to depend on several other teams losing. In other words, no, they don't control their own destiny to the playoffs.

It's obviously not going to happen, but it would be interesting. I think LSU could go over Georgia if it beat them in the SEC championship, but it gets dicey if LSU splits with Tennesee. Picture a 2-loss LSU getting left out in favor of Tenner who LSU just beat to win the conference.

I think LSU would jump a 1-loss Pac 12 champ and a 1-loss Big 10 team (loser of Michigan/Ohio State). Undefeated Clemson and TCU would stay ahead of them.

That would leave: Ohio State/Mich winner, Clemson, TCU, LSU.

There is a pretty strong argument that LSU still controls its own destiny.

That being said, Bama wins by three touchdowns on Saturday.

You really believe they would keep the SEC champion out

a 2 loss team, when there are other undefeated or 1 loss teams ranked higher? Of course. Especially if those teams won their conference as well.

It's a moot point anyway because it's not going to happen.

To be fair, over the last 15 years Tennessee hasn't exactly been very good

So 1 single year can change an embarrassing team to play every year to a Big 4?

In that case, LSU isn't even in the oft mentioned Big 6, because they have a losing record the last 2 years.

Not that its going to happen, but if LSU b eats Bama and wins the SEC championship game, they are absolutely in the playoff.

There's not a reality in the multiverse where the SEC champion gets left out, 2 losses or not.

That's pretty much how I see it. Assuming the 4 win their 3 remaining regular season games after this week-

Winner of UT/UGA is all but guaranteed a playoff appearance. Theoretically could get knocked out with a loss in the SECCG, but I think it would have to be a blowout loss, with TCU, Clemson, and OSU/ Michigan still being unbeaten.

Tennessee can lose a close game on Saturday and have a better chance to sneak in than any of the other 3 teams if they lose.

Nope, math is not your thing, just one losing season in the past 22 years.

In 2020 the team finished 6-6

Meanwhile, Bama has had four losing seasons over the same duration.

If anything, having only one losing season confirms big six status.

How can "OSU/Michigan still being unbeaten" at the end of the year, when they play each other Nov. 26th?
LSU redeeming itself in the SECCG against UT would be a powerful argument for inclusion in the CFP, should they win out.

Yep, but same affect, not a losing season.

Alabama and UGA both have enormous expectations. Alabama has already slipped once. UGA has an embarrassingly bad SoS this year. They both need to win Saturday to keep playoff hopes alive.

LSU and Tennessee are both under new regimes. Year 1 LSU probably entered the year with much bigger expectations than did Year 2 Tennessee. LSU has to win out for a playoff berth but it's year 1 and I don't see not making it as crushing. Tennessee was expecting an 8 or 9 win season in year 2 of a major rebuild. The season has already been a success for us and a loss would still keep playoff hopes alive (which is really kind of weird since we never had any playoff expectations to begin with).

Both UGA and BAMA need the wins more.

If the VOLS lose a close one to UGA my hope will be to have UGA win the SEC - best chance to make it into the CFP. If we lose and then dawgs lose to Bama we’re SOL.

That said, let’s just run the tables and call it a day.

I don't know about that, a lot of folks expected LSU to go 6-6 or 7-5.

Tennessee was predicted to be more of a 9-3 type team, Alabama has certainly not been as good as expected though and Tennessee has been quite a bit better.

That's obviously indicating "one out of the two."

A loss for Bama ends their season.

2. A loss should all but eliminate UGA. They could be given a playoff spot by the committee again.

3. A loss stings for a bit but this is not a playoff team. Still could be given a playoff spot.

4. A 3rd loss doesn’t effect LSUs season.

LSU fans were saying Alabama has it too easy playing Tennessee every year.

That’s because Tenn has had 8 losing seasons since Fulmer left, and not a single 10 win season.
