Tubby Smith - the guy that took a team fresh off back to back National Title Games - and led them to back to back 9-7 finishes in the SEC.

And Slow B Hall - true fact, he took a job as VP of Central Bank - a regional financial institution back in the day. They were robbed shortly after he took the gig. Why ? Because Hall wouldn't let the guards shoot.

From what I've learned via Strong and Herman I'd add two more

4) Consistency

Consistency in preparation and in implementation. This is the main reason I've stopped believing in "a win is a win". That kind of mentality is toxic towards achieving growth and it's a common pitfall for both highly athletic and talented football players and highly intelligent people in general. I guess this one also coincides with hubris. Guess they don't really teach this at MENSA, huh?

People want to take shortcuts without building the proper foundation first and it just doesn't lead to sustainable success.

5) Stress management

People make bad decisions under stress. I think a big answer to this is to just delegate more... which leads back to hiring good people. I think if a head coach is doing a lot of coaching on game day he's made some bad personnel decisions.

It's Larry Coker. They should have had a dynasty. So many good players, coaching competition was way down in the early 00's, they were right smack in the middle of the most fertile recruiting area in the nation.

1. They did have good players and Coker won a lot of games with them. He was a controversial call away from back to back undefeated national titles in his first two years.

2. Great college players only stay 3-4 years, and he won for 3-4 years.

3. If it's so easy to win at Miami, how come no one other than Coker has even coached in a national title since 1992? The days when it was cool for south Florida kids to stay home and play in the old Orange Bowl stadium are ancient history.

Bobby Ross. Went 31-26 at Georgia Tech and had 2 losing seasons. Managed to win a National Title in 1990. Outside of that year he went 2-9, 3-8, 7-4, and 8-5.

Everyone saying Larry Coker, you do realize he averaged 10 wins a year in Miami right? Y'all are just being lazy with your knowledge of college football history.

Chizik lucked into the best player his first year but couldn't do much without him. That being said, he is my favorite tv commentator.

Chizik is an excellent TV commentator.

LSU 27 double digit wins since 2017 (coach O era), 3rd in the SEC in that span. LSU 13 wins against AP top 10 teams in the Orgeron era, 2nd most in he FBS in that span. Not bad for a mascot
