There's lot of talk here bout UF's facilities and who is to blame for their current state.Does UF have the funs to make any necessary improvements or they are just being allocated poorly? As successful as the UF basebaall team has been over the yrs, that stadium is an embarrassment to such a top flight program in the SEC. As an aside, LSU fans cann't say JA is bad, but most agree he has no balls whatsoever & let's the league office run over him all the time.

Honestly Muschamp et al (Pease, etc) is a big financial strain not just in wasted salary but also in terms of ticket sales and merchandising etc; that said Florida is unquestionably the best program in the SEC and perhaps anywhere East of the Rockies-- 5 #1 teams at the same time was crazy.

I thought both were about to be renovated...?

Edit: BHG West Concourse was renovated in 2012. O'Connell Center renovations are planned for summer 2014.

There's nothing he can do. LSU is getting little support from other schools for it's positions on scheduling inequities. Time will tell though. The old maxim "Every liberal is a republican who hasn't been mugged yet" comes to mind.

The only people that hate jeff long are his competitors and hog fans that are bitter about Petrino wrecking his bike.

Plain and simple, UF doesn't have room for expansion of their premium facilities.

Take a look at BHG...

...see the east & south sides of the stadium? That's why BHG hasn't expanded or added premium seating. And we all know football revenue is what funds renovations, not just for football, but for all sports.

The solution to UF's problems would involve moving the golf course off campus. Many schools have gone this route.

(Top Left side of map)

Then move women's and other non-revenue sports to that area. Especially those using the buildings on the east side of BHG. Then expand BHG, add a ton of premium seating. I'd envision an expanded BHG looking similar to Illinois' Memorial Stadium:

Obviously, that would cost a lot of money. Over time, would it pay for itself?

Dunno that.

Man you did work for that post

But yeah, there really isn't much room for anything on that side of campus. Foley had a lacrosse stadium built but that's wayyyyy on the other side of campus. I don't know if moving the golf course is feasible.

I love facility threads...

I'm quite sure there is a top flight course that would love your business in Gainesville. Failing that, I'd bet you could find some land to build one off-campus.

I honestly don't see any other way you could expand BHG.

Look, Jay Jacobs is a mouth-breathing idiot. Like I said, Cam and Gus have bought him time...

The football team was the WORST in the SEC in 2012...

The basketball team was the WORST in the SEC in 2013 and is 12th in 2014...Tony Barbee has a in-conference record of 18-50 since he arrived...wow.

All other programs have been in decline as well...HE IS AWFUL

well, he did go out and make a great football, baseball, adn softball hire.

He does still have plenty of work to do but I don't think he is the worst.

JEff Long hired BP and then went and hired BB...two real bad football hires in a row is not good.

Seems like the wave of the future is smaller stadiums with premium seating and amenities. I like the plans Kentucky has for their stadium. I doubt we'll ever get an IPF which is fine cause I kinda like the positioning of the golf course, law school, and arenas near each other as it is.

But Foley's a tightwad. It took millions of dollars for him to schedule an OOC out of state and it's a one off with Michigan in Dallas

I think Jeff Long is well respected in college athletics and has done a great job at expanding and updating several UA facilities. I have no issues with Jeff Long.

I thought that was what we we were talking about adding to BHG...premium seating and amenities.

You do realize that as of 2015, Florida will be ahead of only South Carolina and Vanderbilt in terms of premium seating? And that's just in your own division. As of 2014 UF will be behind every team in the SEC West except Ole Miss in terms of premium seating. And Ole Miss is expanding in 2015 or 2016.

So the next time those lists come out ranking the SEC's most profitable teams....well, you get the picture.

This is why I think there's a lot of room for improvement at UF and why I question the AD. Truth be told, BHG and the O'Dome both should be torn down. I think both are hazards waiting to fall on top of someone. Most of Foley's Renovations are just putting lipstick on a pig. I don't know the budget restraints but you have to reinvest in your facilities.

I'm embarrassed looking at most of our facilities compared to the rest of the SEC. And not just football and basketball. We should be top 3 nationally in terms of facilities but in reality we're top 50. Because of the overall arrest records (ever since he became AD), the poor facilities and buying out dead men walking coaches, it's hard for me to say that Foley is the "best in the business".

Gus's hiring was a decision made by a search committee which included Bo Jackson and Pat Sullivan. The way Jacobs has f**ked up ever since he took the position, I firmly believe he had little to do with this as well as the hiring of Sonny Galloway.

The "worst" SEC athletic director, can be defined via several criteria...i.e. athletic performance in the major sports, overall athletic performance,$ management, facilities improvements etc. etc. etc.
For me it's athletic performance in the major/money generating sports...and given the resources avail. to J. Long and arkie...I'd have to give him an F...i.e. out of 42 SEC possible championships since 2010 in football, basketball and baseball arkie has just ONE tying for dead last with Ole Ms and MSU......that's flat out pathetic !

Jay Jacobs is terrible.

Amazing that the "fire Jay Jacobs" talk has died down due to his Gus Malzahn hire...which is what I expected to happen. He needs to be gone. This further proves my thought of Auburn fans (not all) giving him a pass if the football program is on top. Meanwhile, all the other sports are dumpster fires (baseball and basketball).
