I don't think so. Bo Pelini will be gone next year at NU. I just can't see Huskers fans stomaching another year of mediocrity. Stoops has to make good at UK to become attractive elsewhere. That will take at least 4 years. His coaching ability has to match his recruiting talent.

I would hope that we'd throw more money at him than the 'Huskers would.

I don't think you can rate Jay Jacobs as the worst just because of all the success Auburn has had in football.
More SEC championships than any conference team in the last decade
More undefeated seasons than any team in college football over the last decade
11th or 12th most wins in college football during the 21st century
Two appearances in BCS championship game in last 4 years

I agree. It takes some ginormous brass ones to fire a head coach two years after he won the BCS title with an undefeated team.

From a different view, Mitch is both good and bad depending on the hire.
He was at Tennessee, and got DeMoss and Mitchell from that source
He was at Oregon, and got Brooks from that source
He was at SMU which would have given him exposure to Texas A&M and may have gotten BCG from that source pool
Stoops sought out the UK job so Mitch was probably not the lead dog in that hunt
He failed to keep Cohen and now MSU has him
Pretty sure Cal was less his hire, and more at the insistence of a certain donor
As for other sports, he wanted a rowing team when they had no history yet continues to fail pushing equine sports - UK's polo club has a NC and the USPA is HQ in Lex. Hockey is still regulated to club status when the Cool Cats were drawing the 4th biggest crowds behind football, M basketball, and W basketball.
In short he has been good at sourcing things already in place from places he has already been but has yet to show he is innovative in out of the box thinking or hiring from places he has no ties to.

If Kennedy is still coaching after Thursday's loss to Missouri, Eric Hyman.

Auburn also had a last place team in all three major sports in 2012. They were ready to fire Jacobs before he hired Malzahn.

Bob Bockrath was Alabama's AD before Mal Moore. He forced out Gene Stallings and hired Mike Dubose setting in motion Alabama being shitty for 10 years and Mal Moore having to clean up his mess. frick that guy.

If not for red panties, Damon Evans would be on this list.

I don't get all the long hate. He's led the projects for our football stadium expansion, basketball practice facility and baseball indoor practice facility that are being built...things we really needed. We also built one of the nicest football operations centers in the NCAA last summer. He's increased our revenue much more than Broyles ever did.
He hired a basketball coach who went to a sweet 16 at UAB of all places and an elite 8 at missouri. He hired a football coach who went to BCS bowls and was an NFL factory. He hired them with very impressive resumes, it's not like he can coach for them. Most were shocked they left their current job to come here.
But oh no he fired Petrino so he sucks

Stricklin is a hell of an AD. Although, his feelings and kindness get in the way of things. If there is a fault you want an AD to have, that is one of them.

I'm not flaming when I say this, but Scott Stricklin at State isn't anything to write home about.
c'mon man. you can't be serious...
He's done more for Mississippi State sports than most can say.
He laid the foundation for what our football team is today, which compared to our last AD looks like the works of God. I know it's not all about football....wait yes it is

ETA: also, I've always believed that an AD should be an alumni if there is one fit for the job. Just personal opinion though.

The Long hate is foolish, plain and simple. He had no choice but to fire Petrino. BP hiring his mistress for a job that reported directly to him laid Arkansas wide open to lawsuits from the other candidates from the job.
Not only that, suppose the affair ended badly, and she threatened to blackmail both the coach and the university...Long was put in an impossible position by Petrino. There was nothing else for him to do.
Arkansas's facilities are fantastic, and Long played a big role in that, and in future upgrades.

His career at NU hasn't been without off the field missteps also. Especially after insulting the fanbase last season, he needs to come up big in 2014 or he gone

So you don't hold the Joker Phillips hire against him?
I didn't necessarily hold the Joker hiring against him. At the time it seemed like the right move. UK had gone to multiple bowls and Joker was a pretty well regarded coordinator, so I was OK with it.
It just turned out to be a disaster from day one unfortunately for both UK and Joker.
As far as other sports, he has done great, but very few people care about those (except Arky fans) and they bring in no revenue. Bringing in DeMoss and Mitchell were great hires, his best.
I blame him for the football troubles beginning with Morriss leaving, but do like the Stoops hiring. He's done nothing for basketball, Calipari was hired by the board, Barnhart didn't want him.
He's been a good AD from an overall sports program perspective, but in the money generating sports, he's been below average.

Meh. It didn't take long to realize the winner in that scenario was Cam, not Chizik. After all Chizik was 5-19 in his stint before. I think he caught "lightening in a bottle" with Cam, and then went back to normal.
Right move by the AD in that scenario.

Even though Long didn't know about the Bobby scandle do you think he's lucky he didn't get fired along with him for such a scandle it put on the U of A? Somthing on that big of a scale at a major university could have cleared house correct? Just wondering what others think?

Damn. I was going to say Jay Jacobs until you introduced me to Mike Alden. That sounds miserable (being a mizzou fan during his era)
And what's worse is he has bullshite bonuses built into his contract for things like bowl eligibility, etc.
He's raking money in with both hands.

No he's not. He's certainly not the best AD, but worst? You're focusing too much on our basketball struggles of late. He helped us gain entry to the SEC, he's helped move our football program from a laughing stock to a consistently formidable team, and he's helped get money and attention to our previously woeful athletic program.
That said, he's made a mockery of our basketball program.
