quote:Agreed, but he can sometimes go overboard, almost like a woman nagging about something: on and on and on.
Danielson is one of the best imo. He does his homework before each game and knows what he's talking about as far as breaking down plays.

Gus Johnson is the best color commentator.

I listen to McElroy's radio show every morning on xm. I think he's great

Danielson has no peer. Herb Kirkstreit is also very good. Booger Macfarland is really pretty good too;

He's not a college football analyst per se, and he didn't even play a sport in college, but Ryen Russillo is spot-on with his opinions and is pretty objective. I truck with almost any opinion he has.

This thread is mistitled. A very good analyst isnt someone who picks the winners of games...its someone who disects the game breakdown for both teams and tells the viewers/listeners WHY a certain team should win.
Greg McEleroy is the best out there and remains imparial. His enthusiasm for the college game is unmatched. Kirk Herbstreit used to be the best...but has faded. Years of traveling, taking notes, doing color duties drained him. I only hope Greg doesnt let that happen to him.

Phil Steele is the best at predicting outcomes and against the spread. You guys have already mentioned the good color analysts.

Herbstreit is good.

I would use Galloway or Kanell as doormats to brush feet off after I stepped in dog poop.
Listen to McEleroy on the morning drive time radio show XM college sports Channel # 84...with Zarzar. Greg is work a holic and hones his craft. He also appears p/t on SECN and ESPN.
As an analyst he is tops right now.

I love when blackledge calls a game. He does a great job as does danielson although he can get hung up on certain players. I just loathe Verne. What a fat toad!!! His chortle does make me laugh though.

You just made me think for a minute. I realize that I don't watch any pregame stuff anymore. I don't pay attention to any of the talking heads anymore. Maybe it's because my team sucks. I don't know.

I don't know that you can judge them by their picks. A lot of luck goes imto that.
Now analysis, understanding, eloquence, objectivity, etc is a better barometer. McElroy is very good. There is a bit older guy that I see at times on ESPN, Ol That played in BYU. Trevor something.... He is really good.

Herbie is always pretty solid. Turtleneck Greg is usually pretty good too. I've always liked Tebow's insight, I'm not sure about his picks though
