Lol our talent level is virtually dead even with that of Arkansas over the last several years, according to the services.
Trash is probably too strong a word but talent wise we are both bad especially when compared to the SEC. Compared to the rest of CFB is a different story.

I think it's a toss up between : Bert, Mullen, Freeze, McElwain, Malzahn. I'd probably lean to Malzahn or Mullen.
Freeze has all the other stuff, but he beat Alabama twice and had Ole Miss playing solid ball BEFORE all his cheating stuff happened. He has his faults, but he did a pretty solid job outside of all the other stuff.

Maybe Mullen- but in this league 1st is Saban a delicious succulent ribeye cooked medium rare, 2nd would be beef liver.

When compared to the SEC West, I agree.

are you high? OM has been cheating through multiple coaching administrations. do you not remember the line their fans kept repeating that all level 1 violations occurred under houston nutt?

I think it's nasty but I do appreciate someone who likes the odd or old timey stuff.

Well, that is the majority of who we are playing against so what the East is doing is fairly irrelevant but for two games

Where does all the Mullen talk com from? He's 29-35 in SEC play, has never beaten Alabama (even in arguably the best season that State has ever had), and aside from 2014, he has finished 4th or worse in the West every year. Also his teams have finished ranked only 2 out of the 8 years that he's been their coach.

I don't exactly understand it either.
The SEC has saban and a bunch of unproven, or either average, coaches at the moment, IMO.

He is a decent coach who is massively overrated by this board. Miss St fills their OOC slate with cupcakes (they have played two p5 teams in the regular season under him and lost them both), plus they get Kentucky every year.
2014 was undoubtedly his best team but he also got lucky that year that they caught LSU/Auburn/A&M early when they were all ranked way too high.
Having said all that, because of his longevity (and because he is doing it at freaking State), and because of coaching attrition at other schools, he deserves to be in the conversation for second best coach. But IMO that is more of a sad sign of how much the quality of coaching has dipped in the conference the past few years.

Yup. His consistency in losing almost EVERY game they play against good teams is kind of remarkable.
Dan Mullen's best wins at Mississippi State (8 seasons) are.......
2009 Ole Miss (#20, 9-4)
2010 Florida (UR, 8-5)
2013 Ole Miss (UR, 8-5)
2014 LSU (UR, 8-5)
2014 Texas A&M (UR, 8-5)
2014 Auburn (#22, 8-5)
2015 Arkansas (UR, 8-5)
2016 Texas A&M (UR, 8-5)
Mullen has never beaten a P5 team that finished the year with less than 4 losses and has only beaten 1 SEC team that finished the year with less than 5 losses.

Call me Homer but if I had to choose from all the current coaches in the SEC other than Saban, McElwain would be my choice. 2 divisional championships in first 2 years, 20 wins, improvement starting to show overall, recruiting is improving. Lost to UT, that sux.

I don't think it's homer. However, like most of the other possibilities for #2, I also think he is a 6-6/5-7 season away from getting fired, which goes to show that there isn't a clear cut #2.

What is the most impressive part of Dan Mullen's resume?
Is it is 2-32 record against opponents that finish ranked in the Top 25?
Is it his 7-22 record against the Big 6?
Or is it his 4-22 record against Big 6 teams that are over .500?

He is number two when it comes to accomplishments. I guess you could make an argument for Gus since he has won the league but he has had some lackluster years after that. McElwain would probably be 4 or 5 atm on my list. He has a lot of room to move around though based on this upcoming season.

Honestly, I think the most impressive part of Mullen's resume is consistently being mediocre, only because that in and of itself is superior to his predecessors.
His claim to fame is not dropping below a certain level, while his ceiling has been incredibly low.

Mullen. He has done pretty well considering the absolute trash heap of talent he has.
"...considering the absolute trash heap of talent he has."
And a coach who's heading into the 9th season of his tenure isn't responsible for getting talent on campus? He's such an amazing coach besides the fact he can't ever get any talent on campus and therefore loses games to South Alabama and BYU. But other than that, he's pretty much Nick Saban.
