this is actually worse than Spurrier to Muschanp -

Georgia basketball - Jim Harrick to Dennis Felton
Not really because of records from last year to the next or the troubles Harrick had, but pure coaching ability.

Alabama only had a three win drop off and somehow is the highest ranked football team. Yet there's already been four to five other situations posted where the win dropoff from the previous coach to the next was greater. It appears the OP can't get Bama off his mind.

Sorry to have hurt your feelings. This chart is not purely based on record from one season to the next, it is the total coaching job.

Title says one season to the next.
But not "final record dropoff"
Muschamp's tenures at UF (Meyer - Muschamp) and USC (Spurrier - Muschamp) didn't have huge, immediate record dropoff, but the coaching change(s) sure was a big one.

That's ... a pretty big drop off.

While I do agree that CFM did tank our program the change from CBMFP to Bilema didn't do us any favors either. Both changes sucked

But it's not the most. "Pretty big" doesn't win the contest when there are four to five other situations that had bigger dropoffs, correct?

Alabama went from who is likely the best coach in college football history to a guy who lost four games with the most talented team in the country. The analysis goes beyond just simple math of wins from one season to the next.

Right, we went from the greatest coach in college football history to someone (who as of today) history won't even remember and just dropped three games. You're making my point, and no, we didn't have one of the most talented rosters in the country when you consider how many freshmen we had to play and the amount of talent that transferred out compared to what transferred in. Bear Bryant said, "You will lose one game for every freshman you have to start". The roster talent narrative is way overplayed when you take into account the lack of experience a lot of that talent had when on the field.

Which ones?
3 games is the same as Spurrier->Zook.

1. Texas A&M baseball - Schlossnagle to Earley.
2. Alabama football - Saban to DeBoer
3. Miss State women's hoops - Schaefer to McCray
4. Arkansas football - Bielema to Chad Morris
5. Tenner football - Kiffin to Dooley
6. SC football - Spurrier to Muschamp
Any other obvious ones who should be on the list?
Vanderbilt football - James Franklin to Derek Mason
James franklin won 9 games in his last season. It took Vanderbilt 28 games to get 9 wins under Mason (2.33 seasons) after Franklin left.

James Franklin went 9-3 in 2013
Derek Mason went 3-9 in 2014
My math may be fuzzy, but that appears to be a 6-game drop. Wouldn't you agree that's more than a three-game drop?
Also, Mike Leach in 2022 went 9-4
Zach Arnett in 2023 went 5-7
My math says that's a 4-game drop off, which seems to be greater than 3.

I'd say the jury is still out on this one.

LSU basketball - Wade (22-12 overall, 9-9 SEC record in 2021-2022 season) to McMahon (14-19 overall, 2-16 SEC record in 2022-2023 season)

It didn't involve a coaching change (till later) and maybe needs an asterisk due to the COVID year, but LSU football 2019 to 2020 is about as drastic as it gets.
Didn't LSU lose both coordinators in the off season?
Not the head coach, but pretty much the people that made the team good.

Judging any coach on just his first season at a school is foolish. Kirby inherited a perennial double digit win Georgia program and went 8-5. Petrino inherited an Arkansas team coming off a 10 win season followed by an 8 win season and went 5-7. Bear Bryant went 5-4-1 his first season at Alabama. Gene Stallings went 7-5 his first season at Alabama. Nick Saban went 7-6 his first season at Alabama. Spurrier had his lowest win total at Florida in his first season (9 wins). Dabo won 4 games his first season at Clemson. Bobby Bowden won 5 his first season at Florida State. Josh Heupel went 7-6 his first season at Tennessee.
And none of those guys had to deal with a transfer portal where 40% of their team left their first week on the job.
