Let's slow the roll on TT and SMU money...
Both have university endowments a bit over 2 billion.
TEXAS is over 44 billion
A&M is over 20 billion

I agree with one exception…qb. It’s the most important position in the game now.
Take LSU- our big QB signee out of high school was Walker Howard, he of the infamous "Grindin' Brian" gifs. He hung around a year, transferred to Ole Miss and I've never heard of him again. But he was a bigtime recruit at the time, the type that might get a lot of NIL money coming out of high school today. If he did, it would be a huge waste.
Meanwhile the better moves were the current and previous starters. Jayden Daniels showed he had tools at Arizona State a couple seasons, he was worth it. Garrett Nussmeier did his time on the bench, beat out Howard, waited his turn and learned, and now is putting up big numbers. He's also worth it.
Those are the 2 types of QB that deserve the money- the guy that shows out elsewhere and you go get, and the guy who progresses through the system and emerges; not the kid out of high school with zero skins on his belt.

Endowments have nothing to do with athletics or NIL expenditures.
Both SMU and TT have billionaire alumni and collectives willing to spend whatever it takes to be competitive.
Hell,a school like Cal has more billionaires than SMU,TT,UT and A&M combined but don't GAS about athletics...same with Stanford.

24/7 and Onn3 are oddly reporting business as usual.
TAMU ranked #4, SMU #17 and 18 respectfully

Of course it does, endowments are reflective of overall economic health of institutions..is it the end all...no but it definitely shows economic might.
SMU money and TT oil money is so overrated...every school has billionaires.
DALLAS money...West TEXAS oil money...blah blah..this ain't the 1980's.
NOTE: I get your point about Cal , etc. but you have to admit, SMU supporters act like they have Saudi money...they are a cute small school..
They are the Ole Miss of Texas...delusional blue blood mentality.
JR is not on campus at SMU...he's dead and so is the SMU myth of being some Greek mythological beast with all this money...

Hate to bring it to you, but JR wasn’t real.
And SMU is absolutely JR loaded and has been seething about the death penalty for decades.

SMU is a seasoned veteran at this, no surprise there.
So, they're going to get A&M to pay for some of their NIL ?

College sports needs a salary cap.

You know the A&M boosters got paid back by SMU boosters for the gold trans am, right?

is not the same pot of money as

The shift away from endowment giving (its actually just less giving) and direct giving to athletics is healthy for both revenue streams.
Plus Texas and AnM are old and lazy, plenty money coming in to pay the bills lets get drunk. Its fun to see smaller (comparatively, TT is huge) more forward thinking schools creeping up on Texas and AnM.
The really cool part? once you have hit that point of stasis the big boys are at you arent suddenly going to get lean and mean.

AI did this...pretty surprising..you're right.
" SMU alumni are quite wealthy, with the university being tied for eighth among Power Four schools in terms of alumni on the Forbes 400 list. Additionally, SMU has a significant number of billionaire alumni, contributing to its reputation as "Southern Millionaires University. "
Now back to the Myth...so, are they more like Cal or more like OSU or Bama in expenditures. They are much closer to Cal than any true major
It's a Myth, huge money but closer to Cal by far..
P.S. SMU has a Football stadium that defines small time football.

Compare the size and student population and alumni of Texas and Texas A&M to SMU. SMU is a tiny private school. They are filthy rich for their size.

100% true. And they are big spenders.
And I expect they’ll have a top hoops team before too long.

It’s a lot easier to be a “forward thinking guy” when you have a billionaire in your back pocket.
$5.2MM is ridiculous but if a player can get it, more power to them.
I still say that at the end of the day it’s going to be culture, heart, and talent development that wins titles, not talent and NIL money alone. I think we’re going to see a lot of teams with fat NIL rosters fall to teams that have developed better team cultures.

Whether the commodity is oil, elements for batteries, or water, the common denominator is greed.
A few years ago Arkansas refused a project that would divert an irrigation canal into portions of Texas that suffer from annual drought.
It didn’t enter my mind to compare them to Islamic terrorists though.

The only people not shocked are those not from Texas. SMU has been called Southern Millionares University for a reason. $70k per year and the reason they got hammered in 87 was the covetous public Texas schools narked.
I’ve rarely met a Tech man I didn’t like. Even the white collar guys have blue collar heart. It was only a matter a time before one decided to change the game $$$.
We are all lucky that Vandy and the Ivy League $$$ haven’t jumped in.
